150 optimists from all over the northwest of Spain in the base sailing competition of the Week

Closing of the Abanca Week 2021 at the hands of the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña… with the Gadis Meeting that has at stake the trophy that bears the name of one of the most outstanding presidents of the first Herculean yacht club, the unforgettable Aurelio Fernández Lage.

The reason for the postponement last November was not Covid19, but a strong storm that devastated the Galician coast, and that prevented its celebration, as it was classified as an orange alert by the maritime authorities. The competition that is qualifying for the national championships, has once again had a great response among the optimist sail from the northwest, and there will be 150 boats that are on the starting line… among which will be the main skippers; which are, in the end, the greatest promises of Galician sailing.

There will be six tests with the intention that three will be held in each of the two days, starting on Saturday at two in the afternoon and on Sunday at half past ten. The sleeves will be judged for a duration of 40 minutes, and will be headed by Chuco Pérez Lafuente from Aros, as the main official, supported by Alfredo Fernández Soto and Carlos Sardiña. In the work of juries, a Manuel Rodríguez Moreno from Vigo as president, and a José Ignacio Prego from Vilagarcia.

In competition the best, starting with the current Galician champions: Natalia Domínguez from Pontevedra, from the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, and Martín Mijares from Coruña, from Coruña. The 150 optimists will be divided into two groups: the yellow (equivalent to the first category) and the blue, with practically half in each batch. The prizes will be for the first three of Sub 16 and Sub 13 in both girls and boys. Regarding the blue group, only both winners will be awarded… and they will be eligible for promotion to the group of the best.

It is also necessary to highlight the participation of Javier García Estrada from Marina Coruña, who is one of the most outstanding young sailors in recent regattas, as well as the winner of the last edition… Fernando González del Castillo del Náutico, from Coruña, to another good skipper such as Bruno Gago from the Club Náutico Deportivo de Riveira, as well as Emma Chamorro from Vigo from the Club Marítimo de Canido who has just won the Open de Extremadura, and from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo its two greatest exponents: Inés Ameneiro and Luis Wizner .

The most powerful fleets are those of Náutico de Vigo, Marítimo de Canido, Náutico de La Coruña, Marina Coruña and Náutico de Sanxenxo… units from Cangas, Aguete, Riveira, Portosín, Oza, Baiona, Panxón, Ferrol, Sada and Ares… among other clubs. La Coruña with the Gadis Meeting, as the closing of the Abanca Week 2021, will be the benchmark for the youngest sailing nationwide.
