Hunger in Latin America reached levels not seen in two decades in 2020, largely due to the impact of the pandemic.

The data is from the latest United Nations report on food security, published this Tuesday, which highlights that it was the region in which the number of hungry people grew the most.

“We must say it loud and clear: Latin America and the Caribbean faces a critical situation in terms of its food security,” said Julio Berdegué, regional representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
