However, experts warn that you cannot lower your guard: “applying the coronavirus vaccine is not a carte blanche to ignore health measures such as physical distancing and hand washing,” warns the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the midst of the current pandemic, vaccines “are vital not only to save lives, but also to prevent the long-term effects” of the disease, the agency’s experts say.

But these and other experts warn that cases may continue to increase even as vaccination progresses.
