6 books with which we dream that a series will be made after the adaptation of The Rings of Power

In the last decade, book-to-television adaptations have expanded beyond what we originally thought. Hits like Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies and 13 Reasons Why were books first.

Frankly, it’s a trend we want to see continue, because our shelves are packed with stories that would be perfect for the small screen.

In the case of film adaptations, you often have to cut the plot and omit key scenes and moments, however here there is more than enough time to develop the stories, the characters and leave the audience with a good taste in the mouth.

It is true that many think that the adaptations of books, especially fantasy ones, usually end in failure, so perhaps these worlds should remain within the pages instead of being shown on the screen.

Even so, some are as easy to imagine as Game of Thrones or the recent The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which it’s really worth jumping into the pool and seeing those incredible environments and stories.

So, here are the 6 books we hope will finally make it to the small screen. Some are complete series of books, comics or small mythical deliveries, but all of them deserve to be appreciated by all viewers.

6 books that we dream of making a series after the adaptation of The Rings of Power:

Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson (2005)

Note that these books they tried to adapt and they were adapted to the cinema but they did not turn out as well as they thought. The first two movies were nothing like the books. We are facing a series of five books with several extras that delve into other adventures, so it seems that perhaps a movie falls short.

The novels are set in a world with the Greek gods in the 21st century, and follow the protagonist Percy Jackson, after discovering that he is the son of Poseidon. This one is going to meet a lot of conflicts based on Greek mythology that you have to fight your way out of.

Fear not though, a television series based on the novels is currently in production for Disney+, although little is known at the moment. Even so, it will surely get more positive reviews since this saga is loaded with a multitude of adventures.

BlackSad by Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido (2006)

The first Blacksad book (of a total of five), was published in France by Editions Dargaud in 2000 and was an immediate success, allowing the creators to develop the story as a saga. Only for those who are cat lovers, surely it would be worth it to see it turned into a series.

And it is that, John Blacksad, the protagonist, is a big black cat who works as a private investigator. Though he prefers to use his wits to solve his cases, he resorts to violence if necessary and has been known to commit murder before.

Knowing this, we would be before a purely police series with some very funny characters but dealing with totally serious issues. Apart from all the cases in which he is going to be involved, one last important theme is the backdrop in which everything unfolds: the United States during the 50s in all its glory and stridency.

And it is that that time was one of creativity, music, art, science, but, at the same time, it is a place where racism, corruption and political intolerance are allowed to flourish, with tragic consequences that we could see.

The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi (2003)

Netflix has already adapted the successful series of children’s books “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and well, let’s just say that it hasn’t turned out quite as they thought. Well, another series of books that was popular around the same time as this one was “The Spiderwick Chronicles.” The Serie centers on the Grace siblings, who discover a hidden magical world of fantastical creatures all around them.

Let us remember that already in 2008 we could all enjoy this adaptation to the cinema and it was really wonderful. Nevertheless, the movie tried to adapt all five books into one, which meant a lot was left out.

So let’s imagine that it becomes a series with the occasional season and episodes full of adventures and fantasy and of course, a development as it should be of all the great characters that we already saw in the books and in the movie.

Well, to everyone’s delight, Kat Coiro (“She-Hulk”) has been selected to direct the first two episodes of “The Spiderwick Chronicles”, an adaptation of the fantasy book series. In addition, Coiro will also act as executive producer of the series.

J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion (1977)

With the much-desired (albeit not well-received) arrival of the Amazon Prime series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” it might seem redundant to have another Tolkien-based series. However, hehe mythology of this author has such a wide scope that it can only be seen in a series or many movies (which hasn’t gone too bad either).

The Exile of the Noldor, the Fall of Gondolin and the sad fate of Turin Turambar are just a few of the stories that could easily span an entire television series. After all, Tolkien wrote what amounts to an entire history textbook.

The only barrier that would have to be crossed, as we are already seeing with a small dose of The Rings of Power chapters, would be the immense creativity of the fans, who have spent decades deciding the appearances and personalities of the characters and who seem unwilling to give his arm to twist.

Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco (1988)

Let’s stop for a moment and imagine what could come to the world of television if we take the much-lauded movie “The Da Vinci Code” (albeit a fairly average adaptation) and put more intelligence and mysticism into it.

This is what we could receive if an adaptation of the book “Foucault’s Pendulum” by the Italian writer Umberto Eco were made.

It would be about a colossal conspiracy thriller about the Knights Templar, Jewish mysticism, code breaking, numerology, the Holy Grail and a high IQ obsessive treasure hunt that can only lead to madness.

Yes, perhaps it would not be the typical series that you see a weekend after going out to party, but it is certainly striking to see how this great and mythical book could be adapted.

FuboTV is a new streaming platform. It has just arrived in Spain and offers a week of free subscription without obligation to watch Movistar Series online.

Ex Machina by Brian K. Vaughn and Tony Harris (2005)

If it were possible to bring these comics to television, we would be facing the perfect combination of political drama and fantasy genre. This one, for those who don’t know, recounts the ascension to the New York mayor’s office of Mitchell Hundred, an engineer who, after coming into contact with a mysterious alien artifact, obtains the power to speak with machines and give them orders.

Just with that, imagine everything we could get to see and enjoy. That yes, it would be necessary to avoid falling into the absurd and respect those reflections, political drama, complexity of the plots, and, of course, the dark and apocalyptic tone for which it stands out so much.

It is true that it seems something too complex and reckless, but we consider that it would be a success like “The Sandman”.
