A Cáceres Book Fair with more appeal for young audiences

The 22nd edition combines regional presentations with well-known national firms to promote the literary event

More youth activities and content in this 22nd edition of the Cáceres Book Fair that officially opened this Friday. Coinciding with the European Year of Youth, the City Council and the organization, Ifeca, the Cáceres Trade Fair Institution, have wanted to dedicate part of the programming to promoting reading habits among the youngest public.

In this way, this Friday morning the writer from Cáceres Pilar Galán coordinated a literary creation workshop with students from the IES Hernández Pacheco and, afterwards, the activity ¿And you, what do you read?, a round table and debate was held with the authors Miguel Gómez Andrada and Salvador Vaquero, and the young creators Verónica Jiménez, Laura Núñez and Cris Mareza.

In the children’s section, this Saturday 23, Book Day, three titles by Mónica Rodríguez will be presented: ‘King’, Edebé Prize for children’s literature 2022; ‘Cueto Negro’, awarded by the Cuatro Gatos Foundation this year and Kiriko Youth Award 2022; and ‘Clara’s Thread’, a play about Clara Campoamor’s childhood and youth.

Parity in the choice of authors who present their novelties in the editorial appointment is one of the aspects that has been taken into account this year, according to what the acting mayor María José Pulido highlighted at the opening ceremony. In addition, to promote the Fair, recognized firms have been pulled, without dispensing with a large selection of creators from Extremadura who come with their works. The journalist Ángel Martín, Pablo Carbonell and Nieves Concostrina will attend, the latter presenting ‘Any past time was ‘previous’ this Saturday.

“We want to provide that good field where the people of our land can play, but we have also invited figures that are of national relevance, some of whom are from Extremadura, such as Ada Salas or Javier Cercas,” Pulido stressed.

As in previous editions, the institutions exhibit their literary novelties in the Paseo de Cánovas marquee. The Diputación de Cáceres presents, as is customary, its issue of the Revista Alcántara. In his Easy Reading collection, he brings an adaptation of ‘El Sí de las Niñas’ by Leandro Fernández de Moratín. And finally, a work on the historical-artistic heritage of the provincial institution coordinated by Francisco Javier Pizarro.

The Consistory, for its part, attends with the twelve documents of the month from the Municipal Historical Archive, exhibited last year at the Palacio de la Isla, and the winning works in the Antonio Rubio Rojas story and legend contest.

In the premises section, the journalist and collaborator of this newspaper José Ramón Alonso de la Torre will sign copies of the second title of his trilogy ‘Franco’s hairdresser’ on Tuesday 26 April.

On Friday afternoon there are two closed meetings with writers, on the one hand, at 6:00 p.m. Antonio Palacios will introduce Elena Campos’ work ‘Warriors of the Ring: the legacy of water’, and on the other, at 7:00 p.m. Miguel Gómez Andrea ‘ Gol’ and Pedro Camello Abengózar will present ‘Berenguela’.

Although the day has dawned rainy and windy, the public has not been deprived of going through the 15 exhibitors of the sample, nine of them bookstores, to consult and acquire the latest literary novelties.
