Last night, a couple attacked a nurse from the gynecology emergency service of the General Hospital of Alicante because, apparently, they were unhappy with the waiting time. The man, who could not be in the room due to the prohibition of accompanying family members as a measure to stop the spread of the covid, smashed the glass that overlooks the rooms where professionals work with a fist, and started to run. The woman then took the opportunity to put her hand through the hole in the glass, open the knob and enter to attack the nurse, who threw several chairs, a vital sign device, and a computer screen while threatening to kill him. Both have been arrested and will go to court tomorrow.
The events took place last night, around 9:00 p.m., when a gypsy ethnic couple had approached the hospital for a medical consultation. On the third floor, they waited to be seen after triage. There, the man of the couple, after a while waiting, began to scream and pound on the door where the gynecology professionals were. A nurse ran out to see what was happening, thinking that something was wrong with one of the patients.
When the sanitary opened the door, they found a male who he yelled at him and asked him to take care of his wife now, according to sources close to what happened. She told the man that he could not be there due to the measures established to stop the spread of the virus, and, after a tense situation, the nurse decided to close the door. At that moment, the man smashed the door open and ran.
When the nurse tried to notify the security personnel, the woman took advantage of the fact that the door was broken to put her hand through the hole in the glass, open the knob and go in to attack the nurse, to which she threw several chairs, a device to measure the constants and a computer screen while threatening to kill her if her husband was caught by security and was arrested. The screams of the nurse alerted colleagues who went to help stop the situation, who tried to retain the woman, within a tension that lasted for several minutes.
Security personnel went to the scene, and later National Police officers also appeared, detaining the woman and finding the man. Both were arrested and will be brought to justice tomorrow.
From the UGT they have shown their total rejection of the attacks on the personnel of the health institutions. On the other hand, they have criticized the conditions of some of the emergency workers. “This gynecology service belongs to the Emergency Department and does not even charge with special services,” says Rosa Quarks, general secretary of the UGT at the General Hospital of Alicante.
