The Marina Baixa region has registered in the last hours the death of a person diagnosed with covid-19, which already brings to 118 the number of citizens who have died as a direct or indirect consequence of this disease. This is reflected in the official statistics published today by the Ministry of Health which, however, continues to place this region as the one with the lowest infection rate in the entire province and in the whole of the Valencian Community.

Specifically, the Marina Baixa health department has counted since Friday a total of 45 new positives, which brings to 2,343 the number of people who have fallen ill with the new coronavirus since the pandemic began last March. Of them, 118 have been diagnosed in the last 14 days, the time period in which the virus is considered to be active.

All in all, the incidence of infections in the last 14 days stands at 63.68 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the average of the 18 municipalities that make up this health area, a figure much lower than that of the majority of regions in the province; among them, the closest: Dénia, where the rate is 111.80 cases per 100,000 inhabitants; the department of Sant Joan d’Alacant, with 186.29 cases per 100,000 inhabitants; or Alcoy, where there are 442.17 positives per 100,000 inhabitants.

By municipalities, Benidorm It is the town where the person who has died with covid-19 in recent days -72 in total since March- resided and, in addition, it is the one that has registered the most new cases since Friday. Specifically, it adds 28 new positives – just double the 14 that it registered between Tuesday and Friday of last week – to reach 1,212 infections since the beginning of the pandemic. Of them, 50 have been diagnosed in the last two weeks. In the tourist city, the incidence of positives in the last 14 days stands at 72.67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

La Vila Joiosa, with 6 new cases; l’Alfàs del Pi, with 4; La Nucía, with 3 more positives; Y Altea Y Polop, with two new infections in each of them, complete the list of municipalities in this region where new infections have been registered by SARS-CoV 2 since Friday, according to official statistics.

The municipality with the highest incidence of infections is right now Orxeta, where among its 736 neighbors 2 positive have been diagnosed. Despite being a very small number of infections and despite the fact that in this town only 7 cases have been registered since last March, the rate of positives in the last 14 days shoots up to 271.74 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, So from the City Council they have asked the neighbors for great caution and responsibility to try to stop the transmission of the virus.

Similarly, 12 municipalities in the region have not registered any new case since Friday: Finestrat, Callosa d’en Sarrià, Saddle, Relief, Orxeta, Benimantell, in addition to the six that have been “free” of covid since the beginning of the health crisis: Beniardá, Benifato, Bolulla, Confrides, the Castle of Guadalest Y Tárbena.
