The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has intercepted a driver who was traveling in the opposite direction on the AP-7 motorway, municipality of Cartagena, which has been investigated as the alleged perpetrator of crimes against road safety for reckless driving and under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
The action took place when the employees of the concession company of the AP-7 motorway (section Crevillente-Vera) alerted the Traffic Operational Center (COTA) of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Murcia of the movement of a vehicle in the direction opposite between the Las Palas-Fuente Álamo toll and the Cartagena toll.
La Benemérita displaced a motorcycle patrol that managed to intercept the vehicle at kilometer 816, before the Cartagena toll, which avoided a possible collision with other road users.
The driver, who had improperly joined the AP-7 highway, from Las Palas-Fuente Álamo, exit 830, driving in the opposite direction towards Cartagena for 14 kilometers, showed signs of having ingested alcohol.
The agents carried out the mandatory breathalyzer tests in which it gave a positive result of 0.80 and 0.79 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, exceeding by more than three times the maximum allowed rate of 0.25 mg / liter.
The action ended with the investigation of proceedings as the alleged perpetrator of crimes against road safety for reckless driving and for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages to a 41-year-old man, Peruvian national and a neighbor of Zurgena (Almería).
The person investigated and the proceedings ordered were made available to the Investigating Court number 2 of Cartagena.
Another quadruples the rate
That same day, a patrol from the Murcia Traffic Detachment intercepted, at kilometer 588 of the A-7 motorway, in the municipality of Librilla, a driver who circulated irregularly and quadrupled the maximum allowed rate, for which he was investigated for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
The crime of reckless driving It is found in article 380 of the Penal Code and can be punished with prison terms of 6 months to 2 years and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a time greater than 1 and up to 6 years.
On the other hand, the crime of driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages is included in article 379 of the Penal Code and can be punished alternatively with prison terms of 3 to 6 months, a fine of 6 to 12 months, or work in benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days and in any case with deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a time greater than 1 and up to 4 years.
The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia appeals to the civic awareness of the population to notify the telephone 062 (Civil Guard) the 112 (Emergencies) or directly to the patrols in service, when they encounter anomalous situations or irregular maneuvers that give rise to the belief that drivers do so under the influence of drugs or alcohol, in order to be able to adopt the appropriate police measures so that these vehicles are intercepted.
This is the third case of the crime of reckless driving (driving in the opposite direction to that stipulated on an unfolded road), detected by the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia during the year 2020.
