A gym for your heart

In this sense, in Spain only 3% of possible patients are rehabilitated, “and in our environment this percentage is even lower, therefore the start of this program is very necessary”, he highlights.

For which patients is this Unit recommended?

In the words of Dr. Fernández de Soria “in principle this Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit would be available to everyone, but those who would benefit most would be patients whose work requires moderate-high physical activity, or those who are psychologically affected and afraid to carry out any activity”, he explains.

After being evaluated by the cardiologist and the rehabilitator, the patient is designed an individualized exercise program, with an initial warm-up, monitored and supervised exercise on a bicycle, and finally strength training in a number of 3 weekly sessions.

In addition, these exercises will be completed with meetings with the psychologist to address problems of this nature that also play a very important role in the ability to exercise.

Likewise, the importance of this Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit lies “in completing the therapeutic approach of our patients, differentiating us from other units, in that this Rehabilitation and Cardiology Unit are integrated allowing continuous and enriching contact for the patient”, details the Quirónsalud Clideba specialist Rafael Fernández de Soria.

Treatments that are designed individually are especially indicated for patients who have suffered a cardiac event such as Myocardial Infarction, Angina Pectoris, Heart Failure and post Cardiac Surgery. The objective is to give patients the maximum physical and mental possibilities, so that they can recover a normal life from the social, family and professional point of view. At the same time, mortality of cardiac origin is reduced.

The results obtained in clinical studies support the efficacy of secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation models.

And in this sense, the programs designed to improve the quality of life of patients with cardiac cardiology reduce cardiac mortality by up to 35%, reduce the probability of non-fatal cardiac events by 46%, reduce overall mortality by up to 20%, improve the individual’s exercise capacity and have a stabilizing effect in areas such as high blood pressure (HBP) and hypercholesterolemia.
