Begoña Garcia, from La Conception Line (Cádiz), has been about to die due to Covid-19 and has not met her baby up to a month after birth because she has been admitted to the ICU for Covid-19.

I was confined for two more days but I could no longer breathe and they admitted me to the hospital’s Covid floor at dawn from December 6 to 7, ”he tells us with a persistent cough that the coronavirus has left him.

Two days later, as his condition worsened, he was given the cesarean birth. Everything was good. The baby, a boy, weighed 2,458 kilos and measured 55 centimeters. It was Covid negative, He was healthy and only spent a few hours in the incubator.

“They told my family that I didn’t go out”

However, Begoña could not see it. He worsened hours later and was admitted to the ICU, where he has been for several weeks. sedated and intubated. “They told my family not to count on me, to come and collect my things because I didn’t go out. My lungs and kidneys stopped.

But he resisted. The December 31 tested negative and left the ICU Covid with the most serious patients to the conventional one. She was still sedated. From that difficult stay, she only remembers a few moments of lucidity in which she asked about her baby.

Fortunately, Begoña got ahead and was able to meet her son, whom she has named José Manuel. It was January 7. The video of the first meeting, which has gone viral, is tremendously emotional. Subject to a tracheostomy, she could not speak and her arms were shaking. “I was afraid to pick it up because I thought I was going to drop it. My whole body was shaking.”

Although she had improved, she caught a bacteria and had to stay hospitalized for another week. This new mother was discharged on January 16, curiously the date on which he met and in which he was reunited with his baby. Begoña and her son are already at home. Both are fine although she has not yet recovered from the aftermath.
