The Russian authorities have denounced in recent weeks a series of fires and explosions in different cities of the country, which have affected different industries and infrastructures, usually related to the Army. Among the affected points there are fuel depots, military installations, factories and a Ministry of Defense building. The two theories that are handled are that Ukraine was behind the attacks (Russia denounces it, while those of Zelenski do not claim any relationship with the events) or that it is a Russian self-sabotageeither.

This past Monday, the 2nd, an adviser to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, reported a “powerful explosion” in Perm (a city near Moscow) against a Russian plant dedicated to manufacturing weapons such as the BM-30 Smerch multiple rocket launcher or the BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system.

In addition to the catastrophic effects on this infrastructure, two people died. Russia has not reported on the causes of the event.

To this we must add other incidents that have been happening since the war began in Ukraine. The first took place in the Belgorod region, whose governor, Viacheslav Gladkov, denounced at the end of March that “two ukrainian helicopters flying at low altitude fired several missiles at a fuel depot at dawn” in the main city of the province, doing that eight warehouses burned.

This caused “a fire in a fuel warehouse”, 50 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces then warned that Russia could seek to “provoke” them to justify their invasion.

One of the affected buildings is the largest chemical plant in Russia, dedicated to manufacturing military equipment.

Another case was, a few days later, that of a fire that affected the building of theCentral Research Institute of the Aerospace Defense Forces of the Russian Defense Ministry in Tver, again a few kilometers from Moscow. According to the Tass agency, at least 17 people lost their lives. This was a center focused on missile systems, many of them used against Ukraine. According to information from Tass, the cause of the fire would be an electrical short circuit, but it is being investigated if it could not have been an accident.

That same there was a chemical plant fire in Kineshma, 170 kilometers from Moscow. It was the largest in the country and they manufactured military equipment. This time there were no fatalities. There have also been explosions in cities such as Klimovo or Berdyansk, which affected the Russian railway lines that they transported military material.

Likewise, the governor of Belgorod (about 40 kilometers from the border with Ukraine), Viacheslav Gladkov, has denounced this week that «Ukraine continues to bomb Zhuravlevka and Nekhoteevka. According to the report of the Voluntary People’s Guard service group, a house and a garage were destroyed in Nekhoteyevka. There have been no civilian casualties.”
