Afghanistan is set to take on the Netherlands in the second ODI of the three-match series at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Sunday 23 January. Both teams played very good cricket in the first ODI, but it was Afghanistan who came out on top by 36 runs.

Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghan team’s starting captain, couldn’t have asked for a better way to launch his captaining career. He led by example in the first ODI and scored a well-compiled half-century to lead his team to a respectable total and then made all the necessary tactical changes on the pitch to keep the Dutch in control. He used his spinners quite skillfully, and they rewarded him by taking wickets at crucial moments in the game.

Rahmat Shah also anchored the innings very well and complimented his skipper in the middle. He also scored a half century and seemed to be in total control of his innings. He will be one of the most valuable picks for this game. Leg spinner Rashid Khan also had an unforgettable match as he collected three crucial wickets and also pulled off a breakaway to dismantle the chasing Dutch.

On the other hand, the Dutch team started very well and their pitchers, led by Brandon Glover, applied relentless pressure on the Afghan batsmen and never allowed them to get loose. But the Dutch batsmen failed to capitalize on the impressive start given by their pitchers and were eliminated with 186 runs. Starter Scott Edwards seemed to be in good contact and would like to pick up where he left off.
