The Taliban hung the bodies of four suspected kidnappers in public in the Afghan city of Herat, in an apparent warning, according to a member of this Islamic extremist group.

The gruesome display came a day after a notorious Taliban official warned that extreme punishments, such as executions and amputations, would be resumed.

The men were killed in a shooting after allegedly kidnapping a businessman and his son, Herat Deputy Governor Maulwai Shair Ahmad Emar said on Saturday.

The AP news agency reported that a body was hanged of a crane in the city center.
