A policy from another era, serious and with the mission of “dignifying Spanish parliamentarism.” That is the task that you have been given this Friday Alberto Nunez Feijoo to its deputies, senators and MEPs. A message that breaks with the confrontation promoted by the Executive, but also formations such as Vox. this very Thursday, Santiago Abascal he warned the popular ones that “no collaborationism” with this government is “acceptable.”
But the former president of the Xunta de Galicia, backed by the four absolute majorities he won in his autonomous community, understands politics differently. He has demanded respect for the adversary and the institutions, and has been clear: «The least that can be asked of a politician is education. The Chambers are not a social network in which to compete with zascas and thick words. I ask you to contribute every day to dignifying Spanish parliamentarism». A direct missile to the previous address of the PP.
The opposition leader’s obsession is that his colleagues are “better in substance and form” than their opponents, and are already focused on building an alternative to the “bad government” of Sánchez, whom he sees dedicated to making “opposition to the opposition”. A strategy of “legitimate defense”, popular sources have later ironized at the end of the conclave.
Renewal process completed
In his open, concise and firm speech after an hour of meeting behind closed doors, Núñez Feijóo has concluded the process of renewing the national leadership of the PP after the departure of Paul Married. “In just over fifty days”, he continued, they have completed a “rapid, measured and thoughtful” change. He also wanted to hold this meeting in the Senate because it is “one of the best expressions of Spain united from diversity.” A phrase that has evoked the controversy of “nationalities”, although he has not used this term at any point in his speech.
He did want to vindicate the management experience of the PP and place it as a state and government party: “A party like ours cannot make a clean slate or deny the experience of years of service to citizens.” Next, he has called to “honor, defend and preserve the institutions”, and has urged his own to “rebel” against the sanchismthe populism “of all signs” – alluding to Vox, a party that he has not expressly mentioned once, since Can– and “contempt for the Constitution and the autonomous State.” “I propose to rebel against the policy that I have found,” he has sentenced.
This Thursday, Núñez Feijóo lamented, Sánchez missed the opportunity to offer explanations at the height of “the magnitude of the crisis that it caused in the intelligence services” by publicly admitting that he and some of his ministers were spied on with pegasusand by ceasing to Peace Stephen of the National Intelligence Center (CNI). For this reason, it has demanded that its deputies, senators and MEPs focus now on preparing the “project for the next Government of Spain», «with different proposals and styles», where all Spaniards see themselves reflected.
More amendments and fewer tweets
“The goal of a politician is not to stand out. He but raise things and help transform reality. I do not believe in parliamentary circuses. I will value a reasoned criticism much more than a good headline. An amendment to a law than an ingenious tweet », the president of the PP has warned, very insistent on that line, which has precisely been the most applauded by his colleagues, despite the fact that it represents an obvious break with the previous direction.
He has also sent a message to locals and strangers: neither he nor his party will participate in a “theater” in which in the morning they are “insulted”, “underestimated”, and in the afternoon they meet with the Government to agree “on a dark room.” Respect, then, must flow in two directions. «I know that the bad government is more comfortable insulting us and confronting those who also insult us; I also know that he is more comfortable agreeing with those who have no argument other than insulting the State than agreeing with the PP. Seriousness, work and coherence is a less spectacular way, but it is a much better way to serve citizens », he asserted, and stressed that « no one » can better oppose this Executive than its own members.
“I propose to win by convincing. Going to all corners to explain what we propose and what we defend. The unity of the nation, responsibility in the face of bad spending, planning in the face of improvisation… Spain was excited about the Transition, with the socialist change at the beginning of the eighties, with the alternation of the 90s of Aznar’s PP and with Rajoy’s PP that faced the crisis… That illusion is also now possible again, ”he concluded with a Unamuno tint, cheered by his parliamentarians.
