The town of Alcuéscar in Cáceres will host Filare 2022, the project for disseminating universal accessibility and the social inclusion of people with disabilities through interventions of contemporary creation in rural towns in Extremadura. This was decided this week by the jury, meeting to select this year’s venue from the three locations selected in the call: Vivares, Collado de la Vera and Alcuéscar, the Board reports in a press release.

Filare is a pioneering and original project in its field promoted by the General Directorate of Accessibility and Centers of the Second Vice Presidency and Ministry of Health and Social Services, in which the Official College of Architects of Extremadura (COADE) collaborates for its execution.

In its decision, the jury has valued the exceptional heritage and landscape interest of the sites proposed for the interventions, the local involvement in actions that favor integration, cooperation and coexistence, as well as the link with the State Center for People’s Care with Physical Disability (CAM Alcuéscar).

Vivares and Collado de la Vera

The jury has also highlighted in the minutes the implicit commitment of the municipal team of Vivares, neighborhood associations and citizens in social and cultural development of the town, by carrying out activities and projects such as “Vivares Nocturna”. Likewise, he mentioned the interest in the sites proposed by Collado, both in their built environment, with traditional architecture characteristic of La Vera, and in the splendid nearby landscape of the Sierra de Gredos.

Filare has also shown gratitude for the participation of other candidate localities, not selected, to count on their collaboration in future editions or in other actions that promote universal accessibility, social inclusion, sustainability, innovation and contemporary creation in the Extremaduran rural environment.

Jury

The jury was made up of María Ángeles López Amado, General Director of Accessibility and Centers; Sagrario Conejero Vidal, head of the Accessibility and Centers service; Estefanía Sánchez Garrido, technical specialist in accessibility; Manuel Herrero Sánchez, Secretary of COADE; and Marina Fernández Ramos, technical director of Filare.

Last year the first Filare edition took place on the beach of Orellana la Vieja, with the creation Campo [Rosa] of Piedras Hincadas by the architect Greta Crespo. Both the results and the experience of the participants and organizers far exceeded the expectations and proposed objectives.

Filare is circumscribed within the New European Bauhaus initiative that aims to combine sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics; create a new way of life, one that requires less carbon and is inclusive and affordable for all people.
