Alicante, the city of blue fences

In Avenida de la Estación, one of the busiest by Alicante (due to its location) and visitors (due to having the train station at its ends and one of the main TRAM stops), there are three views that are part of the image of the city, although for different reasons: the Luceros fountain, which now shines in all its splendor after a restoration completed in due time and form (something that is becoming the news rarely); the Provincial Palace, seat of the Provincial Council and the work of the same author who designed the Casa Carbonell or the Casa de Socorro; and, for other reasons, the fences that cordon off the surroundings of one of the many empty tree pits in the city of Alicante since almost time immemorial. The damage to the public road is one of the many that perimeter in the capital, with blue fences, and thus remain for weeks, and even months, until its repair is undertaken, amid the indignation of the residents of the area who repeatedly complain, also on social networks, of the slowness of the City Council to solve problems in the streets.

These fences, in front of the Alicante Provincial Council and one block from Luceros, are located at the intersection between Avenida de la Estación and Calle General O’Donnell, and it seems that they try to preserve the partial collapse of the sidewalk in the event of possible stumbling blocks. Other of those blue billboards that are seen so much around the city are found on Reyes Católicos street, also in the heart of the city. from the city. This time they cordon off a space located on the border between the road and the sidewalk, between Pintor Aparicio and Portugal streets. Neighbors do not know why.

The same model of fences is that it limits a deterioration in the public highway in the central promenade of Óscar Esplá avenue, near the intersection with Castelar street. There you can see, with the naked eye, that It seeks to mark a sinking of a trap that, according to the inscription, seems to be hiding wiring of the traffic signs in the area. Neighbors say that they have been in a space for some time, on paper, enabled for the circulation of bicycles along the central pedestrian walkway.

Similar blue billboards are also visible at the intersection of General Marvá with Calle Marqués de Molins, in the vicinity of the Official School of Languages of Alicante. Neighbors say they are to cordon off some stones that fell long ago and are still on the ground to this day.

That slowness in solving problems It has led residents of Garbinet to warn of the placement of fences in some works that were being undertaken in the area of the Civic Center. «The work began several weeks ago on the sidewalk of Calle Médico Vicente Reyes. It has been left halfway, with the pavement not replaced and forming a permanent puddle from the building’s drainage, ”says one of the neighbors, who hopes that the solution will not last forever. You may have in mind the perimeter stairs of the Central Market, which in recent years have spent more time between fences than in progress, or the bottom of the Postiguet walkway, which after a truck crash has been pierced for almost two years and signposted by some “witnesses” posted by the Alicante Fire Brigade. In the same area, residents also await the repair of several central planters allegedly damaged by vehicle impacts.
