All the mistakes that are made when driving around roundabouts

Despite the fact that roundabouts were originally designed to speed up traffic
avoiding crowds of red traffic lights, in practice these infrastructures are a constant source of conflicts between drivers, both for those who drive badly and for those who think that others are driving badly.

The accident rate data at roundabouts or turning intersections show that in Spain there are 33,978 accidents per year at an intersection, of which 20.16% occur at roundabouts.
Formaster points out that this figure is even more worrying when we talk about roundabouts in
intercity highways where it reaches 29.3%, mainly due to the speed of the cars that circulate and that do not have time to brake when they realize that they reach a roundabout.

According to a study by
Professional Association of Training Companies in Logistics, Transport and Road Safety, most drivers say they know how to behave at a roundabout, but 80% make one or more mistakes. Among the most common are incorrectly positioned in the lanes, incorrectly using the turn signals, crossing in front of other vehicles when trying to take an exit, or directly making the roundabout as if it were a straight line.

Although there is a great variety of roundabouts, in all of them the driver must take into account the same principles:
give way to those within it and choose the lane that you consider most appropriate based on the exit you are going to take.

That is, once inside the roundabout
the vehicle that is occupying a lane has preference with respect to the one who is going to access it; and, to exit the roundabout, it is essential to previously position yourself in the outer lane (the one on the right); and if it has not been possible, we will have to make a new turn to place ourselves in that position with time.

In addition, 60% of drivers use the wrong turn signals in a roundabout. More than half of the drivers do not use it to indicate that they are going to leave the roundabout and
30% of them usually put the indicator on the left to warn that they are going straight ahead or that they are not leaving the next exit without changing to the center lane and they immediately change the indicator when they are going to leave.

As they recall from
Balumba Insurancein a roundabout the indicator is used correctly in these three cases:

-Before joining the roundabout you just have to signal
if you are going to take the first exit. For this we can turn the blinker to the right.

-Once we are inside the roundabout, many drivers have the habit of continuing with the left turn signal on to indicate that they are continuing around the roundabout, but this is incorrect. own
DGT It says that “when you drive inside, do not use the left turn signal to indicate that you are going to continue turning; use it alone
to make lane changesand put the indicator on the right to announce the exit”.Inside the roundabout, put on the left indicator if we are going to change lanes towards the one further inside the roundabout.

-Finally the right turn signal is used
when are we going to take the next exitthus giving reaction time to other vehicles.
