America could return to normal at Christmas

(CNN) — US President Joe Biden answered questions from Americans as the nation aims to contain the coronavirus pandemic, reopen schools and jumpstart the economy.

Biden said that covid-19 vaccines will be widely available to the general public in late July during the first forum of his presidency.

“By the end of July we will have more than 600 million doses, enough to vaccinate all Americans,” Biden told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Biden noted that there were only 50 million doses available when he took office. Biden said it implemented the Defense Production Act to secure “the fabrication piece for more equipment.”

He explained that one of the main obstacles to injecting the vaccine into people was the lack of vaccines. Biden said he issued a decree to increase the number of vaccinators.

“We have now made significant progress in increasing the number of vaccinators. I issued a decree allowing former retired doctors and nurses to do so. We have more than a thousand soldiers … We have gotten the National Guard to commit … they have opened a considerable number of places where you can receive the vaccine, “he said.

The return to normality

When asked when he thinks the country will return to normal, President Biden said he is cautious when it comes to predicting a timetable, but noted that “next Christmas” is a time when the nation could be in a ” very different circumstance. ‘

Biden noted that with current vaccines and Johnson & Johnson’s upcoming vaccination, the ability to continue to spread the disease will “be greatly diminished” due to herd immunity.

«So, if it works that way, as my mother would say with the grace of God and the good will of the neighbors, that by next Christmas I think we will be in a very different circumstance, God willing, than we are today », Biden said.

“A year from now, I think there will be significantly fewer people who will have to be socially distanced, they will have to wear a mask, but we don’t know,” Biden said.

Once again, Biden realized that he did not want to “overpromise anything here.”

“The nation is not divided”

President Biden said he does not agree with “the whole world” saying that the United States is a divided country.

The nation is not divided. If you go outside, take a look and talk to people, you find groups at both ends. But it is not as divided as we think and we have to unite it, “Biden said in response to a question about his immediate and tangible plans to address the division in the country.

Biden explained that he believes that most of the people in the country agree on issues such as help against covid-19.

“You cannot function in our system without consensus, unless you abuse power at the executive level. So, I really think there are a lot of things that we agree on and don’t focus on enough… We have to be more decent and treat people with respect and decency, ”Biden said.

Below, Biden reviewed and mentioned some of the reasons why he decided to run for president. Among them, restoring the “soul of the country” and rebuilding the “backbone of the country.”
