Artificial Intelligence Observatory

AMETIC has just presented its Artificial Intelligence Observatory, launched with nearly 100 Spanish entities, which currently research, develop, apply and consume this technology, and which reflect the diversity of national activity in Artificial Intelligence.

The AMETIC Artificial Intelligence Observatory has the support of the technology company Atos and is made up of large technology and consulting companies, companies from key sectors of the economy, SMEs and start-ups with in-depth knowledge of technology and market niches , Universities, and research centers.

Through the launch of this Observatory, the association aims to strengthen the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and the challenges of its application in companies, public administrations and in society as a whole.

The president of AMETIC, Pedro Mier, has highlighted the role that AI plays as an enabling technology, providing competitive advantages to transform industry, the economy and society: “We are launching this Observatory, with the clear intention of being an instrument to connect the world of Artificial Intelligence with the companies, public administrations and professionals that make up the digital ecosystem of AI in our country”.

This Observatory was created with the aim of promoting the ethical and sustainable use of this technology. In addition, it will contribute to showing the full transformative potential of AI, showing the latest technological developments and their applications in nine areas of work: technology, industrial applications, economics, finance and the stock market, regulation, research, sustainability, education and employment.

For the president of the AMETIC Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Commission, Enrique Serrano, “an observatory is a center from which objects and situations are investigated, analyzed and recorded. At Ametic, we launched the first global AI observatory in Spain precisely to analyze and investigate the successful use and application of AI in our country in an ethical and sustainable way.” And he adds: “The initiative arose three years ago from the AI ​​committee of Ametic and has the support of more than 100 entities including companies, universities and research centers, which provide knowledge in the form of regularly published papers, use cases And experience. This represents the greatest exponent currently in our country of public-private convergence in terms of AI. Its principal functions are to observe (investigate and analyze) and share (disseminate, disseminate and teach) from a totally neutral perspective and taking society, companies and public administrations as axes of application”.

Start of the Observatory

The Observatory will have the participation of experts who will collaborate in different working groups. One of the first activities to be carried out will be the study of the impact that European regulation will have in areas such as legislation, ethics, cybersecurity and privacy.

Likewise, the development of lines of work related to employment, education and sustainability is planned. On the other hand, and every four months, an AI Radar will be published, with analysis on the use of this tool by the Spanish industry, the evolution of roles in the labor market, trends, etc.

According to Jose Esteban, CTO of Atos in Spain and Portugal, ”this Observatory is key for our country. Artificial Intelligence has the potential to very positively transform society when done ethically, safely and sustainably. It is a vital technology for the digitization and future of Spain. This initiative will offer a precise vision of the progress of AI, its implementation at the national level, as well as its trends and areas of evolution”.

Among other planned actions, the following stand out: the elaboration of analyzes and exclusive technical articles by experts; publications that reflect the industry’s vision on the national AI strategy; practical guides for the implementation of ethical and trustworthy AI systems; analysis of the industrial impact of recommendations and regulations; ELSEC (ethical, legal, social, economic, cultural) impact analysis of AI; study of successful cases in the execution of AI projects in Spain; alignment with the existing Observatories at a national, European and international level and monitoring of the capacities of the main research groups.
