An electric Montijo makes Córdoba earthly

El Montijo scored a meritorious point against Córdoba, outstanding leader of Group 4 of the Second RFEF, in a game that he played without fear and in which he came to overwhelm his rival at times, especially at the start of the second half. . Simo put the Cordovan team ahead near the break and Dani Segovia equalized after the restart with a disputed penalty, less clear than another not indicated by Álex Bernal in the first act.

Manchón was the great protagonist on the local side in the first half, marked by the wind at the Emilio Macarro. The winger was on almost every occasion for the red and black block, starting with two shots before and after the first quarter of an hour that ended up in the hands of Carlos Marín in one case and out in another. Córdoba also showed their quality, with a clear shot by Gudelj in a corner in which he hit the ball badly with everything in his favor and, above all, in a tremendous shot by Álex Bernal with his left foot from the edge of the box. Sergio Tienza made a poster stretch to avoid 0-1.

After an attempt by Javi Flores, which went wide, came the controversial action of the first half, shortly after half an hour. A clearance by Visus with the head ended with the ball touching Álex Bernal’s arm, apparently separated from the body, but Amar Ahmed considered it a rebound. Then Manchón headed in a good cross from Barragán, a nightmare for Gudelj, although it was from the three posts. There also ended a shot on the half turn by Puga after Casas left in a throw-in.

When the match seemed to be headed for the break with 0-0, the goal of the Cordovan team arrived, this time in light blue. Casas rescued a ball that was lost on the baseline and Simo scored at will in one of the few oversights by Gabri, an improvised right back due to the problems of Richard and Chechu.

There was no psychological affectation for that much, because Montijo came out like a bull around the locker room. He did not create any real danger, except for a couple of attempts by Joel Salvi and Manchón entangled in the defense, but he put the leader in his own box for many minutes.

Then, in minute 59, a great opportunity to score did come, on a ball won by Dani Segovia that Manchón let pass and that Joel Salvi sent over the crossbar in a straight position. Fortunately, there was no room for lamentation because almost immediately, in the 61st minute, the referee awarded a penalty for Javi Flores’s hand in Javi Chino’s shot from a corner, although the ball apparently hit the Cordoba captain’s face. Dani Segovia beat Carlos Marín and did justice on the scoreboard.

Germán Crespo pulled the changes to modify the dynamics of the match. Fuentes, De las Cuevas and Luismi gave another air to the visiting team, while Montijo partly blamed the lack of replacements –only one and in the 88th minute, José Ángel–. Gudelj warned with a clear header on a corner kick and Fuentes sent another to the crossbar, although it was ruled offside on the play.

Montijo considered the point valuable and could barely get close to Carlos Marín’s goal, except in some set piece action, but he did not hold back in defense and barely conceded a chance to Casas in the final stretch, who, after control and hat in the area, he finished off against the side of the net.

With the point Montijo is left with 42 and momentarily leaves the play-off zone, due to goal difference, after Villanovense’s victory in Antequera.

Juan Marrero has been satisfied with his team. / ADG AVERAGE

Marrero: “It’s a draw that tastes a lot like victory”

The Montijo coach, Juan Marrero, was left with the feeling of having played the “most complete” game of the season, “taking into account the conditions we had, the rival and the result, by putting us 0-1.” “We had to risk many meters behind against a team with speed and quality, and at times we won the duels and got them into their field,” he stressed.

Marrero saw a game that was “matched” from the first half, in which “Córdoba’s talent decided.” «We had situations to create more danger, but in a play that could be better defended they went ahead. In set pieces they finished us off, but without danger. Then, in the second half we deserved the comeback », he argued.

The Valencian stressed that they made the leader suffer: “This type of team must be made to suffer to have any chance and we had several options, despite knowing that we had to keep eleven for a long time.”

In that sense, he pointed out that they were “more than 85 minutes with the same eleven”, when instead Córdoba “changed and put three or four players as good or better than the ones there were”. “I would highlight the heart of my team and the claw, because it is not easy with the temperature to put up with a great team like Córdoba and stand up to it, even with the chance of winning,” he added.

The coach of the Montijano team congratulated his players “for their sacrifice” to achieve “a tie that tastes a lot like victory.” «We are up for the soul of the team and the ambition must always be 200 percent, we cannot reflect conformism despite the fact that we have impediments and many people have been affected. We have to go for the three points in what remains and see where football puts us », he concluded.
