The Andalusian Government has decreed the perimeter closure of the eight municipalities integrated into the two health areas of Campo de Gibraltar after presenting the highest incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants after 14 days in the region, with 316 cases, and the proliferation of the British strain of Covid-19 in Gibraltar.
In a statement, the Board has indicated that this closure affects the eight municipalities of The Line of the Conception, Algeciras, Los Barrios, Castellar de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera, San MartíDelel Tesorillo, San Roque and Tarifa, with about 270,000 inhabitants in total.
This decision has been adopted at the proposal of the High Impact Public Health Alerts Council meeting this morning.
To this measure is added a vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in all residences in both areaandas in the health professionals who carry out their work in the area.
In the same way, and as decided by the High Impact Territorial Committee of Cádiz last Thursday, the population screening has begun this Saturday in the municipality of La Línea de la Concepción and will continue this Sunday in Algeciras.
This has been announced by the Minister of Health and Families, Jesus Aguirre, at the end of the meeting where the proliferation of cases associated with the British strain of Covid-19 in Gibraltar was also analyzed.
In fact, the confirmed cases linked to this strain rise to seven in Andalusia during the last hours: three are registered in the province of Malaga, two in Granada, one in Seville and one in the Campo de Gibraltar area, and all of them have good clinical evolution.
In this sense, the Ministry of Health and Families maintains intensification of the epidemiological surveillance of those confirmed cases of Covid-19 with a history of travel to the United Kingdom or Gibraltar recently, applying genomic sequencing techniques to the isolates of these cases.
Likewise, the also known as Committee of Experts has taken into account the informatioDelisseminated by the National Health Service (NHS) of the United Kingdom, according to which the data of infections in Gibraltar have suffered a progressive rise in the last 14 days, with rates incidence per 100,000 inhabitants that exceed 2,000 and more than 800 cases declared in the last two weeks.
Faced with this situation, the Minister of Health has assured that “the Junta de Andalucía considers it necessary to adopt this type of containment measures in the area and as a principle of caution to avoid exponential growth in the next few days that could directly affect healthcare pressure “.
Similarly, he has insisted on his claim to the Government of Spain “to act forcefully and establish greater control in transit with Gibraltar”, as he did in the letter sent to the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, on Wednesday past.
