The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman harshly criticized the Aukus agreement.

“Extremely irresponsible.”

This is how China described the Aukus pact on military security announced on Wednesday by the leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

The agreement will allow Australia to receive technology from the other two countries to build nuclear powered submarines for the first time in its history.

The plan is seen by analysts as an effort to countering Beijing’s presence in the South China Sea. The region has been in dispute for years.
