LONGMONT, Colo. — Longmont Police (LPS) took a 58-year-old man into custody Wednesday morning after an hours-long standoff.
Around 9 pm Tuesday LPS officers were called to a home located at 1549 Northwestern Rd. after a neighbor reported several people arguing outside of a home, according to LPS.
A second caller told police that a 44-year-old woman had been strangled by her boyfriend, LPS said.
When officers arrived, they talked with two women who had injuries from a violent assault, police said.
The women told police that the suspect, Jesus Magallan, was still inside the home and was armed with a handgun, according to a release from LPS.
The two victims were moved to a safe location while officers attempted to contact Magallan, police said.
LPS officers completed a background check of Magallan and found he had several felony convictions, including a felony threatening conviction in 2012.
At about 7:38 am, Wednesday, the Longmont SWAT team took Magallan into custody. He’s facing charges of domestic violence, second-degree assault, third-degree assault and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, according to LPS.
Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact the Longmont Police Department at 303-651-8501 and refer to case number 22-2487.
As a result of the barricade situation, Longmont Estates Elementary School canceled classes for the day, according to the school’s website.
“Longmont Estates Families and Staff: The Longmont Police Department has notified us of a serious police operation in the neighborhood that is in close proximity to the school,” the notice said.
“While this is unrelated to the school, due to the seriousness of the police activity and safety concerns with transporting students into the school, we are canceling school for Wednesday, March 30.”
