Believe it or not, you may not be shutting down your Windows 10/11 PC properly

We are going to learn how to properly shut down our Windows computer. Many times our computer does not boot cleanly, and we are going to configure it to do so.

It is known by all of us who use Windows computers that there are those people who decide to always turn off their computers when they have finished with them, others prefer to leave it on standby, and others leave it directly blocked. If you are one of the first, this article will interest you.

It has always been said that the best way to treat our computer once we have finished the tasks is to turn it offbecause that way when we turn it on again everything is loaded again, and in itself it is the most correct way to do it, but there is a handicap.

Due to the fact that today the startup speed of computers is highly valued (it is also understandable, given their power), computers by default in Windows 10 and 11 do not turn off completelyif not that they leave several applications open, more like the hibernate mode that the system itself has.

All this can be changed by unchecking an option that we will now show you, and that will make every time we decide to turn off our devices they do so completelyforcing to close absolutely any process.

This option is called fast start upand what it allows is to keep several of our computer’s processes and services in the background without any consumption, so that when we decide to turn on the computer again, they already work first, without having to wait for them to recharge.

While this option is very attractive and there are users (myself included) who prefer it, others may value more the fact of reloading everything from scratch to have a faster boot. We tell you how to deactivate this option, if you have Windows 11 or Windows 10.

Note: the screenshots shown below are from Windows 11, the latest stable version of Windows, but they work the same way if you have Windows 10.

How to completely shut down your Windows computer

1. We will enter the control Panel. The easiest way to do this is by opening the Windows menu and searching for “Control Panel”.

2. Click on “Hardware and Sound”.

3. Under the Power Options options, we click where it says Change button actions on/off.

4. We click on Change settings currently unavailable. This will enable us some options that are available below.

5. We deactivate the option that says Turn on fast startup (recommended)and then click Save Changes at the bottom.

And I would be with this our computer will always restart all processes when we decide to turn it on again.

If your computer hasn’t received Windows 11 yet, you can follow these steps to install it on your Windows 10 computer.

As we mentioned before, this is not a recommendation, but rather a way of telling you how to activate the option to perform a complete restart of our computers. It is at the discretion of each user to activate or deactivate it.
