To be fair, he looks under 38.
Even after winning the franchise’s first playoff game in 31 years, Bengals coach Zac Taylor remains fairly anonymous in Cincinnati.
Following Saturday’s win over the Raiders, Taylor visited the Mt. Lookout Tavern on his way home and surprised a group of fans with a game ball in a moment that went viral on social media.
“It was what I imagined,” Taylor said. The MMQBIt’s Albert Breer. “I was full. It was a good scene. People had obviously been there for a while, having a good time, which is what I expected. So it was fun to be able to share that with those people.”
In the video, it seems like everyone in the venue was thrilled to see Taylor show up. But the person who answered the door apparently had no idea who it was.
During an appearance on good morning football On Thursday, Bengals tight end CJ Uzomah revealed a slightly embarrassing detail about his coach’s night out.
“Since the coach threw me under the bus the last time I was in [the show], identified himself when he went to that bar, by the way. So we enjoy that,” Uzomah said.
I don’t know if Taylor should be flattered or upset that the bouncer wasn’t convinced he was over 21. He’s 38 years old (the second-youngest head coach in the NFL this year, trailing only 35-year-old Sean McVay) and has the kind of boyish face that makes it easy to mistake him for someone much younger, especially in the dark. of a crowded bar. Also, Taylor’s description of the scene to Breer makes it sound like the bouncer had a busy night. They probably couldn’t catch much of the game and say, “Hey, that’s the guy on TV.”
The Bengals hope the turnover will be a new tradition in Cincinnati. Uzomah took one to a place called Walt’s Hitching Post in Fort Wright, Ky., but he doesn’t appear to have had a problem getting inside. If Taylor wants to bring another to the Mt. Lookout Tavern if Cincinnati beats the Titans on Saturday, at least they’ll know who it is.

As I first mentioned on Wednesday, this is the latest edition of Hot Clicks. It will continue in the form of a new daily newsletter that I will launch in the very near future. (I had said on Wednesday that the first newsletter would be out on January 31st, but it seems to be getting delayed and I will refrain from announcing a new start date so as not to look stupid if I miss that deadline too.) You can sign up for that newsletter by subscribing to SI Extra list on this page. It will also be published in article format on SI.com.
The newsletter will be very similar to what Hot Clicks readers have come to expect from me over the last four years, so I don’t think I should take up space here praising the end of this particular era. But I just want to thank everyone for reading this column often enough for me to continue to be employed by Sports Illustrated for the better part of a decade. I also want to thank all the dozens of creeps who sent me crazy emails in 2018 when I discontinued the Lovely Lady of the Day feature by taking over Hot Clicks. I assume that a good part of you were lying when you said that you would never read YES again and you are in fact reading this sentence.
I’ll also take this opportunity to tease Jimmy Traina one last time by pointing out that he started Hot Clicks when I was in high school. I’ll be turning 30 later this year, so it’s obvious he had a great idea and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue what he started.
