Biden visits Buffalo, more key primaries: Daily Briefing Tuesday


President Joe Biden will meet mourning community members in Buffalo, New York, following a mass shooting at a supermarket he will label as ”terrorism.” Primary elections will be held in five states, including Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The Ukrainian military is working to pull out of the last defenders of the Azovstal steel plant – but avoided using the term “surrender.” A heat wave this week is likely to sear much of the South and the NBA draft lottery will determine the No. 1 pick in this summer’s draft.

🌅 Up first: A deadly shooting at a Southern California church was a “politically motivated hate incident'” against the Taiwanese community, authorities said Monday. At least one person was killed and five people were injured when the shooter opened fire Sunday afternoon at the Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods, which was hosting a Taiwanese congregation. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect Monday as David Chou, 68, of Las Vegas. Chou was booked on one felony count of murder and five felony counts of attempted murder, the sheriff’s department said in a tweet. The Federal Bureau of Investigation opened a hate crime investigation into the shooting.
