BMW will use Amazon Alexa technology to create a new voice assistant by 2024

Amazon Alexa will be the voice assistant foundation for the next generation of BMW vehicles, the companies announced today at the annual Amazon Devices and Services launch event.

Yesterday, at Amazon’s fall presentation, apart from the multitude of products that were presented, we were also part of a partnership between BMW and Amazon with the goal of building your next attendee voice using Alexa.

Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President, Connected Enterprise and Technical Development Operations, BMW Group, and Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Devices and Services, Amazon, announced today. at Amazon’s annual launch event for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023which we were following yesterday from ComputerHoy.

“This cooperation with BMW is a great example of what Alexa Custom Assistant was designed for: so that companies can develop personalized smart assistants for virtually any device faster and easier, without the cost and complexity of building it from scratch,” says Limp.

It should be noted that the German car manufacturer and Amazon have a consolidated relationship for some years now. If we remember BMW already started offering the Alexa assistant in some cars in 2018.

However, here we are not talking about integrating Amazon Alexa, as has already happened, but about creating a new assistant for BMW, providing great features that we will get to know, both for brands and consumers. The first vehicles with the new generation of the voice assistant are expected to be launched in 2024.

“Alexa technology will enable an even more natural dialogue between driver and vehicle, so drivers can stay focused on the road ahead. This will take the digital experience to a whole new level.” Stephan Durach said.

One aspect to comment on is that, according to the BMW Groupdrivers will be able to choose the voice assistant they want to use. And it is that, for several years now, the car brand has BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, developed on Microsoft’s Azure Cloud.

With this, it will be you who decides whether to use the one developed by BMW or the latter with Amazon-Alexa. You could even make both assistants work together if you wanted, controlling music and jotting down notes, for example, combining the best features each.
