The responses of the defendants following the complaints made by Brian Flores this week follow. The NFL was shaken by the decision of the coach of Honduran origin and both the Denver Broncos and the New York Giants defended themselves through statements.
In the case of the Denver Broncos, their president of football operations spoke out to affirm that Flores’s accusations about an alleged discriminatory selection process for his position are “false and defamatory.” head coach.
“While I had no plans to publicly respond to Brian Flores’ false and defamatory claims, I could not remain silent. any longer with my character, integrity and professionalism under attack. I took Coach Flores very seriously as a candidate for our head coaching position in 2019 and enjoyed our three and a half hour interview with him. Along with the rest of our group, he was prepared, ready and fully engaged throughout the entire interview as Brian shared his experience and vision for our team,” John Elway’s statement read.
NY Giants ensured transparency in their process
New Yorkers also said they were transparent in choosing their new head coach, who turned out to be Brian Daboll and not Brian Flores. The Honduran coach relied on some messages he exchanged with Bill Belichick to argue his complaint.
“The accusation that the Giants’ decision was made before Friday night, January 28, is false. And basing that accusation on a text message exchange with Bill Belichick in which he ultimately states that he “thinks” Brian Daboll would get the job is irresponsible. The text message exchange occurred the day before Coach Daboll’s in-person interview was to take place. I would never hire a head coach based on a 20-minute Zoom interview alone, which is all Mr. Daboll had at the time. Additionally, Mr. Belichick does not speak for the Giants and has no affiliation with them,” the organization’s statement said.
“Our hiring process and, without a doubt, our consideration of Mr. Flores was serious and genuine. We are disappointed to learn that Mr. Flores was under the mistaken impression that the job had already been awarded,” they added.
Brian Flores sued the aforementioned teams, as well as the Miami Dolphins and the NFL itself for bribery and racial issues. His complaint is filed in federal court in Manhattan.
Miami already defended itself through a statement from its owner Stephen Ross.
