The Cáceres City Council has offered the municipal shelter to the aid line of the central government and the Juna de Extremadura to welcome immigrant refugees on a temporary or stable basis, as announced this Friday by the spokeswoman for the Government team, María José Pulido, who, to In turn, he gave details of the meeting held last week with Ukrainian families living in the city.

The spokeswoman recalled that the state recommendations for aid to the Ukrainian population arriving in Spain as well as the documentation for families willing to host refugees in their homes are uploaded on the website of the City Council. Those interested must fill in the corresponding form posted on the web and send it to the IMAS email.

Members of the Cáceres Business Circle who will bring refugees to Extremadura have also traveled to the Ukrainian-Polish border. The Food Bank is another organization that has placed containers in the Ruta de la Plata shopping center to deposit basic necessities.

As published this Friday TODAY, 400 refugees have already passed through Extremadura fleeing the war. They were all heading to Portugal, although 60 of them have spent the night in the Badajoz hostel before resuming their trip. On the other hand, the Church of Extremadura has also offered 33 parish houses. The three dioceses also enable another 51 places in residences or reception centers. In the case of Plasencia and Badajoz, they say they would use their seminars if necessary.

Regarding the municipal shelter, it should be remembered that this facility, without vacancy since the contract with the successful bidder expired and was not extended in December 2019, housed homeless people when the pandemic was declared. Recently, the City Council has ruled out its use as a hostel for pilgrims so as not to compete with other establishments in the city.
