The 32nd Peñón de Ifach Trophy will be held in 2021, after being canceled last year due to the Covid-19 health situation. This edition will be held from May 26 to 29, maintaining its format of two regattas: Calpe-Formentera and Formentera-Calpe, a high altitude regatta that appears as an autonomous championship in the FVCV calendar, although social events suffer a significant variation, unlike in previous years, having to comply with various health protocols and those established by the Calpine club.
The emblematic Calpe regatta is now a reality, after the official presentation of the Peñón de Ifach Trophy was held today. The Club has not wanted to lose the tradition of its time at the Wine Regulatory Council of the Protected Denomination of Origin Valencia and although the coming-out has also undergone an important change, with a brief and ‘family’ act it has not stopped have the main actors: Cosme Gutiérrez, president of the DO Vinos Valencia Council, accompanied by Juan Belliure, president of RCN Calpe.
The President of the Council wanted to point out that “It is important for us to continue linked to a sporting event such as the Peñón de Ifach Trophy, with which we have been collaborating for many years”, adding that “after a difficult year in which the regatta could not be held, we return with greater enthusiasm to continue promoting the wines of Valencia in an event as important as this and to which we thank the club for letting us be part of it “
Belliure, meanwhile, wanted to highlight and emphasize the “Thanks from the Club and the Peñón de Ifach Trophy to the Valencia Wine Regulatory Council, and for continuing to bet on this important regatta which, year after year, continues to meet all expectations at the level of participation”, concluding that “after a difficult year, in which we had to make the decision to cancel the regatta, we understood from the Club that we could not leave another year without the regatta, although yes, with a shorter and very limited program of social events. We have developed a health plan and protocol that complements current health regulations, both governmental and federal “
With regard to the regatta, the Calpina event is valid for the Regional Championship of Crucero Altura. The Club maintains its format, with two regattas: Calpe-Formentera and Formentera-Calpe. The departure from Calpe is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday 27 May, while on Saturday 29 May the start will begin from the island at the same time.
Regarding participation, the complete poster had to be hung up just over 13 days before the official start of the competition, with 65 boats that will be on the starting line, coming from RCN Valencia, RNC Gandía, CN Altea, CN Moraira, CN Villajoyosa, RCR Alicante, RCN Torrevieja, CN Santa Pola, CN Cullera, as well as the RCN de Calpe’s own fleet.
