Carlo Ancelotti on Pochettino claim that Mbappe ‘100 percent’ staying at PSG: Sometimes coaches cannot tell the truth

Kylian Mbappe’s future has been a topic of constant debate this season, and with the French club nearly finished with its season, both the consistency and volume of the talk have increased.

Most reports have heavily suggested over the past few months that Mbappe will depart PSG this summer after the expiration of his contract and sign with Real Madrid on a free transfer. It’s widely considered one of the worst-kept secrets in global soccer.

That made comments Thursday from PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino, whose own future is the subject of heavy rumors, all the more surprising. Pochettino claimed that he believes at this point that Mbappe is “100 percent” staying at PSG.

“One hundred percent in both cases,” the former Tottenham Hotspur manager replied when asked whether both he and Mbappe will stay at PSG beyond this season. “That is how I feel today. That is what I can say to you today. I can’t say anything else. That is how I feel right now.

“Of course, it’s football and you never know what can happen. But when asked on what I think today, that’s my answer.”

When asked to respond, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti didn’t shy away from injecting his own feelings, with a truthful answer that had media members laughing at its blunt honesty.

What did Carlo Ancelotti say about Pochettino’s Mbappe PSG claim?

When asked to respond to Pochettino’s claim, Ancelotti had a chuckle, took a few moments to collect himself, gave an exaggerated raise of his famously expressive eyebrow, and said, “Well, coaches at a press conference can’t tell the whole truth.”

The smile then went away from his face and he dismissed the topic from that point on. “Madridistas [Real Madrid fans] right now are focused on two things: Winning tomorrow and winning on Wednesday. That’s what Madridistas are thinking. We are Madridistas too, so that’s what we are focused on.”

From there, Ancelotti was focused on discussing Real Madrid’s chances of securing the La Liga title ahead of this weekend’s match against Espanyol.

“We’re on match point and when the best tennis players get there, they make sure they win it,” Ancelotti said. “We’re a great team and when we need to give that final blow, we will do so. I hope it comes tomorrow.

“I don’t think we’ll relax because the title is so close and I don’t think it’ll be going through anyone’s mind after all the hard work we’ve done to get here. We need a point and we have to think about preparing for the match in the best possible way to try and win it.”

Latest on Kylian Mbappe’s future at PSG

PSG and Real Madrid fans are both likely in a holding pattern on Kylian Mbappe’s future at the French club until the end of the season. But with the Ligue 1 title secured and PSG not in contention for any other silverware the rest of the way, it’s possible that he opens up a little before then.

Mbappe to this point has repeatedly refused to entertain questions on his future, continuing with a professional approach to focus on his tasks on the field until the end of the campaign.

Despite that, rumors continue to fly about Mbappe’s intentions to sign for Real Madrid once his PSG contract expires. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel that Mbappe has a Real Madrid contract “in his hands,” which leaves Madrid fans “confident and relaxed,” but has not fully decided on his future, as PSG is offering the 22-year-old “crazy money” to stay in Paris.
