The Association of Municipalities of the Valle del Jerte has resolved this Tuesday in full to award the 2022 Golden Cherries to the farmers of the region and the Prado Museum. A distinction that will be delivered next Friday, March 25, in the town of Jerte, during the institutional act of inauguration of the 2022 Cherry Blossom Festival of National Tourist Interest.

Farmers and farmers

The association indicates in a press release that these Golden Cherries are awarded motivated by the defense of traditional agriculture, the basis of the region’s economy, carried out by field workers. The work of farmers and farmers is also a great attraction for tourism development in the area. Generations of work extracting the best from the land, Jerte cherries and picotas, Jerte’s star product, transforming the slopes of the valley into terraces to facilitate the hard cultivation of our flagship tree.

Prado Museum

Golden Cherry awarded to the Prado National Museum, with a special mention to its Education Area, in recognition of the work carried out by the museum in recent years in collaboration with the communities that live in this region. «The museum’s willingness to work beyond its physical spaces is recognized, establishing collaboration networks with peripheral and rural territories, as a sign of a clear commitment to openness and a way of understanding the functions of public cultural institutions in the present as spaces for listening and dialogue with a wide diversity of groups and realities».

How is rural life represented in the works of the Prado Museum? Where are the women of rural environments in the History of Art? Since 2019, the educational team of the Museo Del Prado has been working on these questions with a group of women from the region, details the association.

From reflection in regular meetings, action and artistic production, and dialogue during visits to the Museum, a space of shared knowledge has been built around the ways of representing rural women in art. The result of this collaboration is the exhibition “Women from the Valley looking at the Prado” which has toured all the towns in the Valley with works by the participants themselves, revisiting the museum and its contents through collage.

Recognition

Since 2005 this award has been presented, a symbol with which Valle del Jerte thanks and recognizes “all those organisations, companies or people who have in some way contributed to promoting and making the region and its products famous”.

The winners this 2022 become part of the group of winners of the Golden Cherries, among which are Spanish Television, the A3 Media group, the journalist José Ribagorda, the Japanese people, the Spanish Soccer Team, the meteorologist Mónica López , the Museo del Jamón, the Diputación de Cáceres, Dr. Delicias Muñoz García, the High Commissioner of the Government of Spain for the demographic challenge and the fight against depopulation or Cadena Ser, among others.

It should be remembered that the Cherry Blossom Festival of National Tourist Interest is part of the ‘Spring and Cherry Blossom 2022’ program that runs from March 20 to May 7 and is divided into three thematic blocks: Awakening of the Valley, Cherry in Flower and Rain of Petals. Each of them full of cultural, sports, gastronomic and festive proposals that invite you to enjoy the spring valley from within.
