China vows to respond with “strong steps” to “external interference” in Taiwan

The tension between China and the United States by Taiwan has arrived this saturday United Nations General Assembly. One day after meeting for 90 minutes with the Secretary of State in Washington, Anthony Blinkenand denouncing that Washington is sending “dangerous and very wrong signals” about the island, the Beijing Foreign Minister Wang Yi In his speech in the debate, he has launched a message clearly addressed to the United States, even without citing the power: “We must give the stronger steps to oppose outside interference“, has said. “Plots to interfere in China’s internal affairs will be strongly opposed by all Chinese and any move to obstruct reunification will be crushed by the wheels of history”.

The language brought to New York by the Xi Jinping government has been, as usual when it comes to Taiwan, blunt. And the foreign minister has warned that “only when China is completely reunified can there be lasting peace in the Taiwan Strait.”

No criticism of Russia

In a week in which the world gathered in New York has turned its attention to the ukrainian warand in Vladimir Putin’s latest actions and threats, Wang has maintained the equidistance in the face of the war that has made Beijing a transcendental strategic partner of Russia in the conflict. Without ever mentioning the Kremlin, Wang has assured that “China supports all efforts that help the peaceful resolution of the crisis” and has ensured that the “fundamental solution is to build a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture”.

In his references to that war in Europe, in any case, messages that China has already used to address the Taiwan issue have been heard again. “Turbulence and war can only open Pandora’s box and whoever iFight a proxy war can burn easily“, has declared. “No country is above another and no country should abuse its power to harass other sovereign countries“, has said.
