Christian Kirk’s massive contract with the Jaguars shocks NFL Twitter

Remember that time then-Arizona Cardinals receiver Christian Kirk scored his first NFL touchdown and celebrated by “securing the bag?”

That imaginary money he intended to pack into an imaginary bag back in 2018 can be very real now after the receiver agreed to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars for a deal that could amount to $84 million over four years.

ESPN’s Jenna Laine reports that the deal comes out to $18 million per season that will approach $21 million with its incentives.

Either way, he’s now one of the most well-paid receivers despite Kirk never reaching the 1,000-yard plateau for a single season.

Kirk was solid for Arizona, even if many people might point out he’s got just four 100-yard games in four years as a starter.

The 25-year-old was the Cardinals’ 2021 receiving leader with 77 catches for 982 yards. He got bit by the injury bug in every season before this one, but still put up between 590 and 709 yards his first three NFL campaigns.

Kirk found his rightful place in the slot this past season but now gets paid well above where most people projected.

Good for him.

But also, woo-wee that’s a lot of money the Jaguars are committing, even if he doesn’t reach all the incentives. You can understand why the Cardinals didn’t want to spend at that rate to keep the Saguaro High School product in the desert.

NFL Twitter, including a few high-profile cornerbacks, reacted to the price as you would suspect.
