Cinema comes to the car with the Theater Screen of the new BMW 7 Series

If you are a passenger in the back of the car, you usually have the vehicle’s screen far away, which in itself are small and you have to end up using a mobile phone with the dizziness that this can entail. The BMW 7 Series wants to solve it with a 31-inch screen, yes yes, thirty-one.

The new BMW 7 Series is characterized by a remarkable technological presence, with an interior full of the latest generation elements. However, the most striking is in the rear seats, with a huge screen 31” drop down from ceiling. So is the Theater Screen.

It’s no surprise that manufacturers are focusing on developing screens in the cabins of their cars, as they seem to have become central elements of interiors. However, BMW has gone further with the new version of its luxury sedan.

The rear seats of this model are characterized by two small 5.5″ screens placed in the doors, which are tactile and serve to control the larger one that comes out of the roof. In it you can see all kinds of content with a resolution up to 8K -it is the first with that resolution in a car-, although for now it will only be able to transmit in 4K.

Of course, the resolution will not be the only thing to highlight of the Theater Screen. According to the brand, an integrated Amazon Fire TV system is included with it, which will allow access to platforms such as Netflix to watch movies and series. This will be possible thanks to the 5G connection that the BMW 7 Series itself has.

All this has the objective of making the trips as comfortable as possible for the occupants, although the experience is not like the one we can have in our living room at home. Even so, to get as close as possible to that feeling, the Munich brand has caused a special mode to activate in the car as soon as this screen lights up.

What this setting does is close the roof and window shades to reduce light. Ambient lights will also dim and sound will change schemes for a more immersive experience. What’s more, there’s even a system that links the vibration of the seats to the sound to create an experience similar to that of 4D cinemas.

In this way, the occupants of the German saloon will not want to get out of the car when they reach their destination, although they will have to get used to some slight discomfort. For example, aspect ratio is 32:9given the dimensions of the interior, so few contents will be able to occupy the entire screen and we will almost always see black bands on the sides.

Added to this is another problem for the driver, since the Theater Screen Completely blocks rear vision when deployed. This could be supplied with some kind of rear camera that reproduces the image on the dashboard screens, but there is no doubt that the feeling would still not be the same.

Still, there is no doubt that this big screen of the BMW 7 Series It will be one of its star elements. A curious touch that, obviously, will be associated with a clear increase in the base price of this model.
