Climent, very close to revalidating his title of champion of the Spanish Formula Kite Cup

The Valencian Alejandro Climent inaugurated the provisional podium both in this fifth regatta of the Cutty Sark “Spirit of Adventure” FKSS and in the simultaneous Spanish Cup of the Formula Kite class. Together with him, the Valencian Kiko Peiró and the Portuguese Tomás Pires de Lima completed the provisional podium of the queen category. The Advanced and F-one Amateur categories are expected to start testing the next day.

The well-known Gurugú beach once again welcomed the Formula Kite fleet for the fifth consecutive year since the circuit started, with an easterly wind of between seven and eleven knots of intensity that allowed the regatta committee to hoist the Delta flag around the half past two in the afternoon.

Thirty-five sailors of nine different nationalities took to the sea at the start of the first day of competition in the waters of Castellón. Tomás Pires de Lima crossed the finish line of the first heat in first place followed by the young Kiko Peiró and Alejandro Climent in second and third place respectively.

After this first race, Climent recovered and left the entire fleet behind in the following tests of the day, coming in first place in the second, third and fifth races. In the fourth round of the day, a mistake made by the Spaniard was taken advantage of by the Mexican Xantos Villegas to cross the finish line in first place.

The defending champion of the Cup of Spain, at the end of the tests, commented: “Today has been a day of classic Castellón wind conditions, with a wind that gradually dropped. I made a couple of mistakes that cost me some positions in two of the races. Luckily the rest of the tests I have arrived first and I hope the next day to consolidate my leadership”.

The young Formula Kite sailor, Kiko Peiró, achieved one of his best starts in competition, finishing the day in second place, just four points behind Climent. In the five tests of the day, Peiró achieved three seconds, a third and a fourth place, the latter ruled out of the classifications thanks to having completed the minimum test necessary to be able to rule out a result.

The Portuguese Tomás Pires de Lima, was once again placed on the provisional podium, after achieving second place in the Cutty Sark “Spirit of Adventure” FKSS 2022 Ibiza. Pires de Lima, after finishing first in the first test of the day, managed to cross the finish line in third place on one occasion, in fourth place twice and in sixth position in the penultimate race.

Pires de Lima arrived at the beach happy and commented: “Today has been a good day, we had to use the big kite because at the beginning there was more wind and I managed to win the first test. Although I have made some mistakes, I am happy with my results.”

At the end of the fifth round, the intensity of the wind dropped to less than six knots, forcing the Principal Regatta Officer, Alexandre Durán, to end the first day of the Spanish Cup “Spirit of Adventure” FKSS Castellón 2022.

While the sailors regained their strength after the day’s events, thanks to the local gastronomy at the hands of Tourism Castellón, La Roche Posay offered a talk with data and information about how to properly protect yourself from the sun’s damage both on a daily basis and while they are at sea trained. After the talk, Dr. Enrico Morales, dermatologist at the Clinical Hospital of Valencia, resolved the doubts that were raised, checking the skin of some of the athletes, ending the talk by giving away sun protection specially formulated for skin that suffers long exposures to the Sun.
