Eligible population for vaccination
The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, pointed out that to achieve “herd immunity” it is necessary to vaccinate 70% of the Colombian population, that is, 35,734,649 people.
With the 40 million doses, 20 million people can be vaccinated and, Ruiz added, “the basic principle of this vaccination is that, as we had already announced, it will be free for all Colombians“.
It also specified that there are 34,234,649 people eligible to receive the vaccine, who are people over 16 years of age who are not pregnant.
In the first stage, people over 80 years of age and first-line health personnel will be vaccinated, added the head of the Health portfolio.
In the second, he explained, there are adults between 60 and 79 years old and second and third line workers, while in the third there are people between 16 and 59 years old with comorbidities, as well as teachers of basic and secondary education.
In the fourth stage, institutional caregivers and the population in occupations and risk situations will be vaccinated, while in the last phase, people between 16 and 59 years of age free of comorbidities will be vaccinated.
Likewise, Ruiz said that the principles of the national vaccination plan are solidarity, equity and justice, transparency, progressiveness, primacy of the general interest and efficiency.
With the 40 million doses, it is expected that in 2021 58.4% of the Colombian population will be vaccinated.
