Coronavirus: Extremadura reports 18 deaths from covid in the last week

Extremadura communicates this Thursday 18 deaths from coronavirus in the last week, four more than the previous one and 11 more than the previous one. All the deceased – who were between the ages of 69 and 92 – had received the covid vaccine except one.

Specifically, four people have died in Badajoz: two men aged 70 and 79 from Puebla de Obando and Puebla de la Calzada, and two women aged 91 and 92 from San Vicente de Alcántara and Talavera la Real. Mérida has registered four other deaths: two 88-year-old men from the regional capital and from Almendralejo, a 70-year-old resident of Almendralejo, and a 69-year-old woman from Puebla del Prior.

In Cáceres, two women from Membrío, aged 79 and 86, and an 85-year-old man, a resident of the capital, have lost their lives. Coria has reported three deaths: two women aged 88 and 92 from Ceclavín and Torrejoncillo, and a 92-year-old neighbor from Moraleja.

In addition, two men aged 74 and 87 from Don Benito and Cabeza del Buey and two women aged 74 and 93 from Llerena and Villanueva de la Vera have died. Since the pandemic began, a total of 2,424 people have lost their lives to the virus in the region.

The accumulated incidence in those over 60 years of age -the only one that is counted- stands at 982 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days, which represents an increase of 218 points compared to last week. To find a higher infection rate in the community, you have to go back to the end of May. The upward trend is also reflected in the index to seven, which is at 595 cases and seven days ago it was at 380.

Regarding the situation in Extremadura hospitals, there are 81 patients admitted with covid: 20 in Cáceres, 18 in Mérida, 11 in Badajoz, 8 in Plasencia, 8 in Llerena-Zafra, 7 in Don Benito-Villanueva, 6 in Navalmoral and 3 in Coria. Stealthy Omicron and new bloodlines

On the other hand, 47.9% correspond to the latest omicron lineages detected, BA.4 and BA.5, compared to 23.2% the previous week. It must be remembered that these subvariants circulate in Extremadura from the week of May 9 to 15.
