The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, said yesterday that the intention is maintain the perimeter closure of the Valencian Community for another week, because he believes that «no positive data to change this situation. Meanwhile, in the province of Alicante they were registered yesterday 550 new covid infections and four more people have lost their lives due to the disease, one of them a resident of a nursing home.

Puig thus manifested himself before the media in a ceremony in Castellón when asked about it. The head of the Consell stressed, regarding the possibility of adopting more restrictive measures in the Valencian Community, that it is necessary to see how the measures that have been taken work. Thus, Puig has pointed out, in statements collected by Europa Press, that «we have had better and worse moments and at this moment we are going to see what evaluation epidemiologists make of the measures that have been taken and, in that sense, we are going to evaluate the situation permanently and make decisions.

“Negative data”

In this line, he indicated that there are “very negative” data as for infections and that there is “a bit of stabilization” in hospitalization, “which is the most important.” “We have to see how the indicators go, especially the one that represents hospitalizations both in the ward and in the ICU,” he added.

The perimeter closure of the Valencian Community began to be applied on October 30. Since then, You cannot enter or leave the Community without just cause, such as having residence, studies, care for the elderly or a medical emergency. Other measures are added to the perimeter closure to try to contain the pandemic, such as the night curfew or the limitation of capacity, which, although they have managed to contain the growth of infections, have not been decisive to bend the curve.

The President of the Generalitat stressed that “Now there is hope, which is the vaccine, which is closer”But he urged not to “lower your guard at all.” As he explained, the vaccine has not yet arrived and, when it arrives, even until it spreads in its application, you should not lower your arms, but quite the opposite. “We have to be more persistent than ever because where we play it especially in these months is in the hospital space,” he said.

Asked by the disagreements with the vice president of the Consell, Mónica Oltra, regarding the measures adopted, Puig said that he is concerned about the pandemic from the beginning and that he has always made decisions in accordance with the experts and taking into account the reality of the Valencian Community.

As for the daily balance of figures, in the Community as a whole, 1,936 new cases of the disease have been registered and 15 people have lost their lives.

Tension in the province’s hospitals has dropped slightly on this last day. There are 504 people admitted to the ward -16 less than the previous day- and 88 in the Intensive Care Units, which are five less than the balance of Tuesday.

New shoots

Finally, they have been detected 12 coronavirus outbreaks in the province and 53 in the whole of the Valencian Community. In Elche there are four outbreaks of social and labor origin, with 23 affected as a whole. Another outbreak has also been detected in a school in Elda with three infected. In addition, there are outbreaks in the towns of Orihuela, Daya Nueva, Dénia, Alicante, Sant Joan d´Alacant and Onil.

CSIF requests FFP3 masks for SAMU

The CSIF union has requested in writing, and urgently, the Ministry of Health to provide FFP3 masks for Samu workers. The central recalls that “on many occasions they intervene in emergencies with a high risk of contagion by covid-19” and claim these masks in the 48 bases of the Valencian Community “in order to avoid that danger.” The Independent Trade Union and Civil Service Center (CSIF) states in the document that “risks to the safety and health of workers and non-compliance with the occupational risk prevention plan have been detected.”

The CSIF explains in its letter that “on many occasions the SAMU teams intervene in emergencies with high risks of contagion by covid, such as actions that generate aerosols, intubations or splashes”. The union central points out that “the protocol in these cases indicates that within the personal protective equipment the FFP3 mask should be used to give the maximum possible protection to the workers.” CSIF recalls that this type of mask is used in hospital ICUs.
