Ten people have died from covid in Extremadura since last Thursday. It is one less death than the previous week (from 1 to 7) and the same number as the previous one (from March 25 to 31). All those who died in recent days -seven men and three women between the ages of 75 and 93- had received the covid vaccine, according to the weekly report that Public Health issues every Thursday with the balance of the epidemiological situation in the community.

Two of the deceased belonged to the Badajoz health area: a 79-year-old neighbor and an 89-year-old woman from Villafranca del Guadiana. In Cáceres two men have lost their lives: one 88 years old, a resident of the capital; and another of 80 from Almoharín. Likewise, in the last seven days a 93-year-old man from Villanueva de la Serena, an 85-year-old woman from Guareña, two men aged 85 and 91 from Navalmoral de la Mata, a 75-year-old woman from Fuente del Maestre have died. and an 84-year-old man from Higuera la Real.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, 2,276 people have lost their lives to the virus in the region, according to Public Health data.

Regarding those hospitalized, there are 62 people admitted to Extremadura hospitals for coronavirus, the lowest figure that has been recorded in the last month. The Badajoz health zone is the one that cares for the most covid patients, 20 hospitalized. It is followed by Mérida (15), Plasencia (13), Llerena-Zafra (5), Cáceres (3), Don Benito-Villanueva (3), Coria (2) and Navalmoral de la Mata (1).

Of the total, three patients are in intensive care: two in the Badajoz health area and one in Plasencia.

The way of accounting for the accumulated incidence has changed with the new surveillance strategy against covid that came into force at the end of last March and now, only those over 60 years of age are reported. The infection rate in this sector of the population is 634 cases per 100,000 inhabitants after 14 days, an increase of 42 points compared to last Thursday. For its part, the index to seven is at 375 cases, that is, 118 points more.

With this new strategy, all new cases of covid have also stopped being counted and the Ministry collects in the reports that it publishes on Tuesdays and Fridays those that correspond “fundamentally to people with vulnerability criteria or related to vulnerable areas and those who require admission hospital, and not to the total of SARS-CoV-2 infections ». According to yesterday’s report, in the last two weeks, 1,668 positives have been recorded in people over 60 years of age and in the last seven days, 890.
