Coronavirus: Those admitted by covid in Extremadura drop, which adds 758 more infections


The incidence in those over 60 stands at 559 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days, 148 less than last Tuesday, while the rate of seven increases

Extremadura adds 758 new cases of coronavirus in the latest report from the Ministry of Health, of which more than half, 510, correspond to positives diagnosed in people over 60 years of age. There are 22 fewer positives than last Friday, although 156 more than those reported last Tuesday. In the last two weeks, 1,668 positives have been recorded from this age group and in the last seven days, 890.

Total cases rise to 255,370, according to official data.

After the entry into force of the new surveillance strategy against covid at the end of last March, the positives that are reported correspond “fundamentally to people with vulnerability criteria or related to vulnerable areas and those who require hospital admission, and not to all SARS-CoV-2 infections.

Regarding those hospitalized, in Extremadura there are 65 patients admitted for covid. They are 13 less than Friday and 12 less than Tuesday. Of the total, three are in intensive care, one more than in the last report. The percentage of beds occupied by covid patients is 21.4% in acute care and 1.65% in ICU. The occupancy rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 6.13% in acute care and 0.28% in ICU. All these indicators are below the national average.

Health has also changed the way of accounting for the accumulated incidence and now only shows that of those over 60 years of age. This Tuesday, it stands at 559 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days, a decrease of 13 points compared to Friday and 148 compared to last Tuesday. The index to seven has increased compared to the latest data. It stands at 298 cases: 50 points more than Friday and 41 compared to last Tuesday.

Extremadura is above the national average, which is 435 cases at 14 days and 224 at seven. The regions with the highest rates are Navarra (841), Galicia (837) and Asturias (812).

The report also reflects the number of diagnostic tests performed on people over 60 years of age, in addition to positivity. Extremadura has carried out a total of 4,075 tests in this sector of the population in the week from April 2 to 8: 1,490 PCR and 2,585 antigen tests, with a positivity of 26.31%.

stealthy omicron

Regarding the latest update of the epidemiological situation of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Spain, the stealthy omicron (BA.2) continues to be the majority variant in Extremadura. In week 14, which covers the period between March 28 and April 3, it has been detected in 73.8% of the samples analyzed, while in the previous week, the percentage was 76.5%. BA.1, the first omicron, has been recorded in 20.3 percent of cases, compared to 16.9 in the previous report.
