The risk of contagion in the province of Alicante by covid-19 follow increasing worryingly as it expands through all the regions. In these five days, therefore, more than 5,000 new infections have been diagnosed and the trend experiences an upward curve. In fact, the infections diagnosed by PCR reached 883 on Tuesday and 1,490 on Wednesday. That is, 607 more positives in a single day to which we must add four new deaths.

And all of it two days from Christmas. At least the hospital pressure has gotten a slight respite in the last 24 hours. Of the 264 people hospitalized on Tuesday, it rose to 241 on Wednesday. But the health professionals consulted believe that it is a small downward peak within a clearly increasing evolution. In other words, Alicante hospitals will continue to be filled with covid patients continuously in the coming days.

Alicante hospitals currently have 241 infected with covid and 57 of them are in the ICU. In the Valencian Community there are 768 hospitalized and 145 of them in the ICU.

If at the end of last week the province of Alicante entered what is considered a very high risk of contagion according to the new “traffic light” of the Ministry of Health, now it is fully immersed in it. All Alicante health departments far exceed 500 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with the exception of Elche-Crevillent which, for now, is still at high risk. The area with the worst data continues to be the Marina Baixa but the panorama has worsened in a very special way in the Alcoy area followed by Dénia. The incidence in the Health Departments of Elche-General Hospital, Elda and Torrevieja also stands out. The three remaining health areas -Sant Joan d’Alacant, Orihuela, and Alicante-General Hospital- maintain, for the moment, lower figures.

Suspension of recreational activities of the town councils

The sixth wave of the pandemic is leading municipalities to suspend some of the recreational and festive activities that they had scheduled for the Christmas holidays. The need to prevent the spread of the virus has led the government of Novelda to suspend the chimes of New Year’s Eve and other activities. In Sax the celebration of the Cabildo for next Sunday has been canceled and in Elda the traditional performance of “El Tenorio”, scheduled for the Holy Innocents day, has been canceled.
