ATLANTA — Atlanta Fire officials continue to put out hot spots hours after a large fire broke out at Buckhead Saloon, a popular sports bar and restaurant in Buckhead on Monday.
Atlanta Fire Battalion Chief Jason McLain said firefighters saw the fire around 8:11 a.m. from their station just a few doors down.
Additional resources were called to the scene due to the size of the fire. Crews were forced to go into a defensive mode, he said.
“Ultimately we encountered too much fire to continue and conditions became unsafe for the fire fighters.”
He said it took about an hour to get the fire under control with more than 50 firefighters on the scene.
Due to flames shooting through the roof, the residential building next door was evacuated as a precaution. There were no damages to that structure.
There are no injuries and the fire is under investigation. McLain said crews will be on scene for several more hours on Monday afternoon.
Update from Battalion Chief:
Our crew on scene sent video of the flames just before 9:30 a.m.:
Viewers sent video of the heavy smoke coming from the structure at around 8:30 a.m.
