For this reason, they propose to eliminate all articles that compromise the status of hunting in general, livestock, bullfighting or falconry, among others.

The spokesman for Agriculture of Citizens in the Assembly of Extremadura, Fernando Baselga, has advanced the presentation of a proposal for a pronouncement urging the Government of Spain to eliminate all articles of the Animal Welfare Law that “endanger” the rehala and the hunting, as well as hunting in general, livestock, bullfighting and falconry, among others.

Thus, Baselga has explained that Ciudadanos supports “all the rehalers of Extremadura and Spain”, and in this line has confirmed its attendance next Saturday at the meeting that this group will hold in Serradilla (Cáceres).

According to Baselga, the recently published animal welfare law “unmitigatedly condemns” the existence of rehala and “without rehala there is no hunting.” And he adds that “the drafters of this communist social law have wanted to put an end to hunting through the back door since otherwise they have been unable to make it disappear,” he criticized.

In this sense, he has indicated that he finds it “incredible” that in an autonomous community such as Extremadura where hunting and rehala have been declared a Site of Cultural Interest with this law “they are about to disappear if certain articles are not repealed”, indicates the formation in a press release.

The deputy for Citizens has highlighted that the current prices of fuel and feed “have already made it difficult in itself to maintain the rehalas”, an economic sector that, he stressed, “gives work to many people in rural areas » and that if it disappears «it would further condemn the existence of all municipalities».

For all these reasons, Baselga has stressed that its formation will support this group and will attend its meeting on Saturday, while encouraging all hunting fans to also support it and go to Serradilla to show «the total rejection of this law unfair that only seeks to end hunting, bullfighting, falconry or any other hunting modality.

The rehala and the hunt, Asset of Cultural Interest

It should be remembered that June 28, 2022 went down in history as a historic day for hunting in Extremadura. And it is that day the Governing Council of the Junta de Extremadura approved the decree declaring the Montería and Rehala Sites of Cultural Interest in Extremadura, with the category of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

As the regional government explained at the time, “hunting, as an activity linked to the very history of humanity, has characteristics that go beyond its productive nature linked to a food need, identifying itself as a manifestation related to both cultural and environmental aspects.”

“The hunting activity are uses, customs, expressions, knowledge and techniques, aspects that are included in article 2 of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO,” added the Executive.
