David Bisbal, Maluma and Dua Lipa: so far and so close. We could list many differences between the three, aesthetic and musical, but something unites them: what they seek with their songs is to make people dance, and that with the so cloudy year we have been in is a very necessary therapeutic formula. They were the winners of the Los40 Music Awards, the annual awards given by the music network and which have become a benchmark in the industry. David Bisbal won the best Album for In your plans and Song by If you want it, sung next to Aitana; Londoner Dua Lipa won International Artist of the Year and Best International Album for Future Nostalgia, and the Colombian Maluma won the Latin Artist of the Year and best Latin Song for Hawaii.
The pandemic did not stop the Los40 awards gala. It was the most atypical in its history (the fifteenth edition was held; it has taken place uninterruptedly since 2006), since there was no public, but it brought together a score of performances, a glamorous production and all the color that a show of these characteristics requires. On stage it was like other years, in the stands, no. The gala was recorded in Madrid a few days before without an audience and was broadcast last night on the station’s YouTube channel and on Divinity.
The ceremony, adapted to a television rhythm, passed agile, with the protagonism of some interpretations that personalized the stage with almost always striking designs. There was canned applause. There are also them in soccer matches. 2020, the canned year. Among the highlights, we must first mention C. Tangana (although now we must call him El Madrileño), who performed the song of the moment, You stopped loving me. C. Tangana, El Niño de Elche and La Húngara appeared seated on a sofa. On a small table they had glasses of beer, mixed drinks and champagne. It was a full-blown Christmas pandemic gathering. Even the singer’s yellow tracksuit opens the ban on informality in the meetings of the next few dates. The truth is that C. Tangana looks good at all parties, be it the radio formula par excellence or a festival indie. It remains to be seen where this artist’s ceiling is.
Joaquín Sabina put, as almost always, the rogue seasoning. It emerged from a giant screen to present the award to Dani Martín, who was looking at his teacher from the stage with a knowing smile. In little more than a minute, Sabina did many things, all associated with her fame: she drank from a glass, mentioned a after secret, complimented Cholo Simeone, appealed to the party among colleagues, cited secret slogans … There is no better host. Dani Martín, who received a lifetime achievement award, the Golden Music Awards, listened to him spellbound. When Martín took the floor (with a jacket over an AC / DC T-shirt) he considered that the ceremony was a warm-up so that the concerts would soon return. Our eyes lit up.
The gala was presented by the best known face of the chain, Tony Aguilar, and by other popular characters such as Manuel Carrasco, Edurne, Carlos Jean, Santi Millán or Lara Álvarez. Other stars, such as Miley Cyrus, David Gueta or Alejandro Sanz, entered on video to congratulate the chain and send messages in one direction: you have to stay together and safe. Dani Martín, Dua Lipa, David Bisbal, Pablo López, Maluma, Lola Indigo and David Otero with Stool performed.
The most emotional moment came at the end, when the second Golden Music Award was awarded, this time to Pau Donés. The leader of Jarabe de Palo died on June 9, at age 53, from colon cancer. The memory of the Catalan musician with a video and excerpts from interviews (including the shocking one that Jordi Évole gave him shortly before he died) culminated in the performance of one of his great friends, Carlos Tarque, who performed the song by Jarabe de Palo That which you give me. Before, Tarque said, looking at the camera: “Pau, your songs were light.” A nice brooch.
