Two of the Eastern Conference’s worst teams will square off as the Indiana Pacers host the Detroit Pistons. Both sides are just playing out the string at this point, but just because this game doesn’t have playoff implications doesn’t mean we can’t find some wagering opportunities. Point Spread: Pistons +2.5 (-110)
The Pistons shouldn’t be an underdog here, so we’re jumping at the opportunity to grab them +2.5 at FanDuel Sportsbook. That means if Detroit either wins the game outright or loses by fewer than three points, we’ll hit our bet. The Pistons have understandably been flying under the radar, but they quietly haven’t been bad at all over the past month or two. They are a respectable 10-11 in their last 21 games and could easily be a lot better than that. Eight of those 11 losses were by seven points or fewer and a bunch were extremely close games that came down to the wire. The improvement has been undeniable, and a lot of that has to do with Cade Cunningham’s progress. The No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft is starting to take major strides, really coming into his own. In the month of March he averaged 23 points, seven assists, and six rebounds.
But he’s not the only bright spot for Detroit. Saddiq Bey recently had a 51-point game and Killian Hayes just dropped 26 in their most recent outing against Oklahoma City. The Pacers, on the other hand, have lost six in a row – with two of those losses coming by 30+. Tyrese Haliburton is pretty much a one-man show right now; he is getting virtually zero help. Myles Turner and Chris Duarte have been shut down for the season and Malcolm Brogdon is questionable. Back Detroit on the point spread.

Game Total: Under 232.5
The under also makes a lot of sense here. By taking under 232.5, that means we need 232 or fewer points to be scored by both teams combined. Cunningham has been great on offense, but the Pistons’ defense has been just as good the past couple of weeks. It will probably surprise you to learn that they have given up 104 points or fewer in five of their past six games. Indiana’s offense has been depleted by injuries and it probably isn’t going to have too much success here.

Detroit has also been a bit unpredictable with its rotations and may end up resting key starters in the second half. With two teams that are both jockeying for draft positioning, it wouldn’t be at all surprising for them to pull out all the stops to make this game as ugly as possible. We could see a ton of minutes for the backups. The Pistons have only played in one game recently that saw its total number of points get into the 230s, and that was against the Nets and their high-powered offense.
