The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to a 7-1 start at home this season and they are 13-6 overall after beginning a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers with a 5-1 victory on Friday. That halted a brief two-game skid for Los Angeles, while Detroit’s setback was its sixth in a row.

Let’s take a look at the odds and best bets to be made for game two of this Tigers-Dodgers series.

Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers odds

The Dodgers are -350 home favorites on Saturday. That means if you bet $35 on Los Angeles to win straight up, you earn a profit of $10 if the wager is successful. The Tigers are +270 underdogs; if you back them and they win, a $10 wager returns a profit of $27. On the -1.5 run line L.A. is -150. A $15 bet on the Dodgers on those numbers would return a profit of $10 if they win by at least two runs. The Tigers +1.5 is on the board at +130. If you bet $10 on that outcome, you would get a profit of $13 if they either win outright or lose by no more than a single run.

The total – or over/under – is set at 7.5 runs. An over bet is victorious if at least eight combined runs are scored between the two teams, while an under bet wins if no more than seven runs are scored. Both sides of that bet are priced right around -110.

Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers run line prediction: Yankees -1.5 (-130)

When Clayton Kershaw is on the mound and the Dodgers are at home, they will always be heavy favorites. In this case they are worth backing despite the steep price. The run line at least provides some decent value, so going with Los Angeles to cover the -1.5 spread is the smart choice.

Kershaw’s numbers speak for themselves – both throughout his career and already this season. The veteran lefty has won all three of his starts in 2022 and in one of those he had a perfect game going when he was pulled by manager Dave Roberts after working 7.0 innings. The Tigers are unlikely to pose any serious threat to Kershaw’s hot start. They find themselves in the bottom half of the league in most hitting statistics, including tied for last in runs scored. If they were unable to produce against opponents like the Twins and Royals, it will be nearly impossible to do so against Kershaw. Meanwhile, the Dodgers should fare well against Tigers starter Beau Brieske. He got his first major-league start in the second game of a double-header last weekend and now has to face the likes of Freddie Freeman, Trea Turner and Mookie Betts in his second outing. The Dodgers are coming off a surprising series loss to Arizona and they unsurprisingly looked focused and motivated in the opener against Detroit on Friday. More of the same should be in store for Saturday.

Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers total prediction: Over 7.5 (-110)

Totals can be tricky to analyze when Kershaw toes the rubber. Obviously the Dodgers’ lineup is involved, which generally trends toward going over the total. Then there is always the potential dominance of Kershaw that would suggest the other side. Despite his success on the mound,  Kershaw has seen his last two starts end with double-digit run totals in those games. That should continue given the prospect of the Dodgers’ bats going up against Brieske. The new faces of Freeman and Turner have been proving themselves, while Betts and Max Muncy are perennial all-stars. The fact that the lineup also features the consistency of Justin Turner and Gavin Lux lower down in the order makes for an embarrassment of riches. If there is some good news for the Tigers, Javier Baez is back from a two-week absence due to injury and Mr. 3000 Miguel Cabrera has 12 hits in the last 11 games. This 7.5 number is not a big one, so go with the over.

The Dodgers rank in the top five for runs this season, but their production has cooled off in recent games. They hit 10 runs against the Padres last Sunday, but in the other four contests in their last five games they have averaged only 2.5 runs. They have been playing in a lot of games that have gone under the expected total, with seven of their last eight hitting the under. With both offenses struggling, our prediction for the game total is that it will be under 8.5 runs.
