The Government spokesperson and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, has asked the political groups this Tuesday to present a amendment to the entire budget project State Generals (PGE) of 2021 that “reconsider” if you put the country’s priorities above your own.

This was stated in the press conference after the Council of Ministers, in which he referred to this week “key” for the 2021 Budgets, with the start of the debate on the amendments to the entire PGE project this Wednesday.

“We urge all the political groups that have presented an amendment to the whole to reconsider whether they are placing the priorities of the country at such an exceptional moment above their own,” he stressed. Montero has reiterated that the PGE are “essential” so that Spain “can get out of the crisis as soon as possible” and provide greater resources to Health to strengthen primary care or combat the current Covid-19 pandemic.

The debate on the entire 2021 Budgets will start at 12 noon this Wednesday with the intervention of the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, defending the project of the coalition Government.

Specifically, they have presented an amendment to all eight parties: the PP, Vox, Junts, Asturias Forum, the CUP, the Canary Coalition and the BNG, to which the UPN will join, which does not present its own amendment, but has advanced its intention from support the withdrawal of the project and join the request for return of the Budgets. Montero will debate with each of them and listen to the position of the rest of the groups.

The voting will be already on Thursday, November 12, and in this process the government does not need qualified majorities and it is enough to add enough votes to reject the amendments to the totality presented, which are voted in one fell swoop since they all pursue the same thing: the return of the Budget project to the Government.

In any case, the PSOE and United We Can, with their 155 deputies, already add more votes that the supporters of returning the Budgets to the Government (151), but it is also that for this vote it has the complicity of the other formations, favorable to continue processing the project to negotiate its content.

The block that allowed the investiture and re-election of the president, either by vote in favor (PSOE, Unidas Podemos, PNV, Más País, Compromís, Nueva Canarias and Teruel Existe) or by its abstention (Esquerra Republicana and EH-Bildu), The four deputies of PDeCAT and the Regionalist Party of Cantabria (PRC) have joined, who voted against it in January, as well as Ciudadanos, although the orange training demands that they withdraw from the educational reform the amendment that establishes that Spanish ceases to be a vehicular language. In addition, BNG has been willing to withdraw the amendment to the entirety to reach an agreement and their demands are addressed.

Once the total vote is over, the Budget project will continue its processing in presentation and in the commission for discuss partial amendments presented by the groups. The final phase will take place in the Plenary of Congress the week of November 30, where the accounts of each ministry will be voted.
