Direct | The Board asks the Government for explanations for the discharges

Fernández Vara affirms that large business projects continue their course

The Junta de Extremadura has asked the Government for explanations for the discharges that have taken place in recent weeks in the region. The President of the regional Executive, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has pointed out that it is necessary to take measures to avoid reducing the flow.

The Extremaduran president recalled that last year the Water Law was modified to set the ecological levels of the reservoirs. “We have reiterated it in person and in writing many times, the last one a few days ago, so that once and for all a decision can be made,” he added. But he has insisted that the powers belong to the Government.

Fernández Vara responded in this way to a question from the spokeswoman for United for Extremadura, Irene de Miguel, who denounced that the electricity companies have tripled hydraulic power in recent weeks to “obtain millionaire profits at the cost of dammed water”, all this at the gates of price regulation by limiting gas costs. “It seems to me a robbery and a scam,” she said.

Likewise, he has criticized discharges such as that of Alange, which “is going to endanger the consumption of numerous municipalities.” Something that also coincides with a heat wave and that also affects the reservoir that will supply water to the irrigation of Tierra de Barros. “We don’t have too much water,” he said.

Along with this, the president of the Extremaduran PP, José Antonio Monago, has asked about the large business projects that were announced in the last legislature. Among other initiatives, he recalled that the macro-battery plant will be installed in the Valencian Community instead of in Extremadura, that the great Castilblanco leisure project has not presented the guarantees and that the Mérida sugar company has not yet laid its first stone .

For Monago, despite the fact that the regional government has announced that it is Extremadura’s time, the reality is that “our time has not come.”

The president of the Board has pointed out that the works of the Amazon logistics center in Badajoz will conclude at the end of this year and will open at the beginning of 2023 and has stressed that the Trujillo synthetic diamond plant hopes to start the earthworks this year. He has also pointed out that the Castilblanco project is continuing its course with the preparation of sectoral reports, that the state company Sepides must decide in June on the financing of the sugar company and that the cathode and battery factories are pending authorizations for exploitation and investigation, “which will see the light throughout this year”.

In addition, it has announced that the Zafra macro-slaughterhouse will be inaugurated at the end of September, that up to fifteen four- and five-star hotels are in various stages of development, and that work is being done on a project for an electrical wiring factory. “Do you really think that all this I have invented?”, She has pointed out.

For his part, the spokesman for Ciudadanos, David Salazar, has called for measures to help young people from Extremadura, who suffer an unemployment rate of 50% and half of those who have a job have temporary contracts. This hinders their emancipation projects, which in turn leads to a low birth rate.

The President of the Board has replied that not all the data on youth from Extremadura are negative and has given the reduction of school dropouts as an example. He has also stressed the importance of emancipation, what will be bet on in the next housing plan.
