Discover the remains of five people inside a taxi in Mexico

  • Three of the bodies were decapitated and the remaining two had gunshot wounds.

The bodies of five men were found this Tuesday inside a public service vehicle in the municipality of Juchitán, located in the Costa Chica region of the Mexican state of Guerrero, in the south of the country. According to police sources three of the bodies were decapitated and the remaining two were shot to death. Meanwhile, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed the discovery of the five bodies and opened an investigation folder for the homicide of the five people.

This Tuesday morning the State Police received notice of a vehicle with an undetermined number of bodies on a road in the town of Las Cuchillas, near the federal highway and in the afternoon the Prosecutor confirmed the number of victims. According to the notice, the five bodies were inside a white vehicle with blue stripes of the public service of the Marquelia-Acapulco route. After the proceedings, the bodies were transferred to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).

The Government of Guerrero recently announced the reinforcement of security to guarantee the stay of people who visit tourist sites in the state. On March 31, six heads and the remains of human bodies were found in a vehicle on the main avenue of the municipality of Chilapa, Guerrero. According to police reports, the six heads were placed on the roof of the car, while inside there were bags with human remains, presumably corresponding to the people who were decapitated.

For more than a decade, criminal violence has prevailed in the state due to the dispute between organized crime groups that seek to maintain control of the region, considered a key point for the production and transfer of drugs. Since the last government of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018) and the current one of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), operations have been announced to contain the violence that has left hundreds of people dead and missing in the region, without results. Until now. Mexico registered 33,315 homicides in 2021 after the two most violent years in its history, under the López Obrador mandate, with 34,690 murder victims in 2019 and 34,554 in 2020. In the first two months of the year, the country accumulates 4,697 intentional homicides201 of them in Guerrero.
